There won’t a star like Flightline in the field, but this year’s Grade 1, $1 million Metropolitan Handicap on June 10 looks to be coming up a very solid race with as many as 10 horses pointing to the prestigious event. Cody’s Wish, who has won three consecutive Grade 1 stakes, could be the favorite in a race that is expected to include three-time Grade 1 winner Taiba, Repo Rocks, Charge It, White Abarrio, Zandon, Doppelganger, Slow Down Andy, and Far Mo Power. Hoist the Gold is possible. The female champion sprinter Goodnight Olive was nominated, but part-owner Steve Laymon said Monday she is more likely to run in either the Grade 1 Ogden Phipps at 1 1-16 miles on Belmont Day or the Grade 2, $200,000 Bed o’ Roses on June 17. Laymon said had Goodnight Olive run better in the Grade 1 Derby City Distaff _ she finished third _ the Met Mile might have come into play. “We kicked around the idea but I think off that last trip we’re not going to do that,” Laymon said. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
