Famed will attempt to do what big brother Essential Quality did last year at Oaklawn Park – win her 3-year-old debut. She goes in Friday’s featured eighth race, which is a first-level allowance at a mile. The race for 3-year-old fillies ends at the sixteenth pole. It drew a field of seven, including multiple stakes winner Holy Justice. But much of the focus will be on Famed, in large part for her family tree. She’s a daughter of Uncle Mo and the Grade 3-placed mare Delightful Quality. “She’s a nice filly,” trainer Brad Cox said. “She’s half-sister to Essential Quality, a Godolphin homebred. She’s got a big pedigree.” Cox trained champion Essential Quality for Godolphin, and last year the horse launched his 3-year-old season with a win in the Grade 3, $750,000 Southwest Stakes at Oaklawn. He would go on to capture the Belmont Stakes and Travers and earned $4.7 million overall. As for Famed, she started her career with a runner-up finish to Sweet Dani Girl, an eventual stakes winner, in a maiden special weight sprint Sept. 26 at Churchill Downs. Famed then won her maiden over seven furlongs Oct. 30 at Keeneland, cruising by more than seven lengths in the slop and earning a Beyer Speed Figure of 84. She advanced to stakes company and was fourth in the Grade 2 Golden Rod to close out her 2-year-old season Nov. 27 at Churchill. :: DRF Bets players get free Daily Racing Form Past Performances and up to 5% weekly cashback. It didn’t really go as well as we expected. She didn’t break and get away as clean as we would have liked. She still ran okay. It was her first run around two turns.” Famed has prepped at Fair Grounds for her seasonal debut, as did Essential Quality. She will break from post 6 under Florent Geroux. “This looked like a good spot to give her another run around two turns,” Cox said. “We have high hopes for her. I think the filly can compete at the graded stakes level. This is the logical spot moving forward.” The Golden Rod produced a next-out winner Dec. 31 at Oaklawn, when fifth-place finisher Secret Oath won a no-conditions allowance by 8 1/4 lengths. Holy Justice enters Friday’s race off a third-place finish in a first-level allowance sprint Dec. 19 at Oaklawn. Holy Justice won a pair of Indiana-bred stakes last fall at Indiana Grand. The first one, the Back Home Again, came over six furlongs. Holy Justice then won around two turns in the Miss Indiana Stakes. Torte, who was second in the same allowance and third in the Miss Indiana Stakes, gets another rematch with Holy Justice. David Cabrera has the mount on Holy Justice from the rail for trainer Genaro Garcia, while Jon Court and Torte will start from post 4 for trainer Mike Lauer. Also in the field Friday is Ice Baby, a Fair Grounds maiden winner last out and a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Strike Power.
