PHOENIX – Trainer Justin Evans appears to have a strong one-two punch for Thursday’s $60,000 Jeff and Jack Coady Sr. Stakes at Turf Paradise in the form of Beyond Awesome and Tiz a Macho Girl. Nine other fillies and mares are entered in the six-furlong sprint. Beyond Awesome, a 4-year-old daughter of Boos owned by Jeremy Ramsland, loves it at Turf Paradise, having won 7 of 11 local starts including a number of stakes the past couple of seasons. She returns to her sandbox after failing to threaten when eighth in a sprint stakes on Jan. 5 at Delta Downs. That was her first start in almost nine months. Luis Negron rides. Tiz a Macho Girl, a 5-year-old daughter of Mucho Macho Man owned by Saratoga West, Steve Haahr, and Christina and Joshua Miyakawa, has, like her stablemate, done some of her best work at Turf Paradise, winning three of her four local tries including a stakes last year. She found open stakes foes too tough to handle in the Pippin at Oaklawn Park last time out Jan. 6, pressing the pace before fading to end up last of five. The 4-year-old daughter of Danzing Candy trained by Lorenzo Campuzano ships in from Southern California off a solid third against allowance rivals Jan. 20 at Santa Anita. She’s been effective in previous forays to at Turf Paradise, with a record of 3-0-2-1. Alexis Valdes rides. Pepper Mill comes here sharp from Zia Park having won two of her last three, with both wins coming at six furlongs. Alberta Sun is another who likes it here, having won four of her eight local tries.
