ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Tito’s Calling will be looking to get back on track under what should be favorable conditions in Saturday’s $100,000 Eternal Search Stakes at Woodbine. A 4-year-old trained by Mike DePaulo, Tito’s Calling was never better than when she won the $250,000 Wonder Where Stakes in September of last year, after which she ran fifth in the Breeders’ Stakes, the anchor leg of the Canadian Triple Crown. She was given the winter off after placing in two Ontario-sired stakes late in the fall. Tito’s Calling won her second race off the bench in the spring when stretching out to 1 1/16 miles on the inner turf in a conditioned allowance/optional claimer. She missed the board in her next four outings, including two Grade 3 stakes and against the boys in a tough conditioned allowance. In a field loaded with speed, stretch-runner Tito’s Calling fits nicely against Ontario-sired fillies and mares in the 7 1/2-furlong Eternal Search on the inner turf. “We’ve had to run her in some races that were a little shorter,” DePaulo said. “We’ve revved her up a little to go seven and a half. She’s training good. It’s a little short but it’s a good spot, for sure.” Jose Campos will pick up the mount aboard Tito's Calling for the injured Emma-Jayne Wilson. :: Get the Inside Track with the FREE DRF Morning Line Email Newsletter. A 3-year-old trained by Mark Casse, Olivia Rose took the South Ocean Stakes last fall and the Fury Stakes with a big 86 Beyer Speed Figure in June. She came from a stalking position when a narrowly beaten favorite while turning back to five-eighths on the inner course in the July 7 Georgian Bay Stakes. Olivia Rose went coast-to-coast in the Aug. 4 Thunder Bay Stakes. She was softened up in a speed duel most recently when second against older Ontario-breds in the Zadracarta Stakes. War Painter, another 3-year-old, retains leading rider Sahin Civaci, who rode her from well off the pace to finish second in the Sept. 10 Rondeau Bay Stakes on the dirt at Fort Erie. The highlight of her juvenile campaign was when she beat Olivia Rose on the main turf in the Victorian Queen, after which she endured a heartbreaking loss in the $250,000 Princess Elizabeth Stakes. My Girl Sky is in with a longshot chance in her third race after an extended layoff. Victorious in the 2022 Thunder Bay Stakes, she chased the good Fashionably Fab home twice last fall when fifth in the Eternal Search and fourth in the La Prevoyante Stakes. Talk to Ya Later wound up third in the 2023 Eternal Search with Taquanyah not far behind her in fourth. Talk to Ya Later was in fine form before finishing up the track in her last two outings, the Grade 3 Seaway and an open allowance/optional claimer. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
