Churchill Downs Inc. on Friday named John T. Marshall as vice president and general manager of racing for Calder Race Course in Miami. Marshall leaves The Meadows Racetrack in Pennsylvania, where he was vice president and general manager. . . . Steve Asmussen became the first North American trainer to win 600 Thoroughbred races in a single year with Storm Trust's win in the fifth race at Delta Downs on Thursday night. Asmussen entered the day with 596 wins and won three races in the afternoon at Fair Grounds. . . . The Minnesota Racing Commission on Thursday approved a 62-day Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse meet for Canterbury Park in 2009. The season, which is five days shorter than in 2008, will begin May 15, run through Aug. 30, and include the 11th annual Claiming Crown on July 25. . . . Apprentice Erin Wilkinson, 24, had the first victory of her career when she rode Misstee Blue ($14.40) to a 7 1/4-length win in the third race Thursday evening at Turfway Park. . . .
