ELMONT, N.Y. – Gotham Stakes winner Enticed was turned out about a month ago and will be getting 30 to 60 days off, trainer Kiaran McLaughlin said. Enticed, who finished 14th in the Kentucky Derby, had been pointed to the Dwyer Stakes, but he hadn’t been training to McLaughlin’s satisfaction. “We weren’t real happy with him,” McLaughlin said. “He’s okay. Got checked out, no surgery required.” McLaughlin said the length of Enticed’s time away would decide whether he has a chance to return to the races this year or will be aimed at a 4-year-old campaign. Meanwhile, McLaughlin said that Takaful, the winner of last year’s Grade 1 Vosburgh, was euthanized earlier this year due to an injury suffered following routine surgery. McLaughlin said Takaful underwent surgery on a hock, and when he tried to get up in recovery, he took a bad step and suffered a fracture that proved fatal.
