Endlessly won his 3-year-old debut in the El Camino Real Derby on the synthetic track at Golden Gate Fields Feb. 10 and will remain on that type of surface for his next scheduled start, the Jeff Ruby Steaks at Turfway Park March 23, trainer Michael McCarthy wrote in a text message Thursday. On Thursday at Santa Anita, Endlessly worked a half-mile in 48.60 seconds on dirt, his first major exercise since the El Camino Real Derby. The $700,000 Jeff Ruby Steaks is run at 1 1/8 miles, and is a key prep for the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on May 4. Endlessly, who races for owners and breeders John and Jerry Amerman, earned a berth in the Grade 1 Preakness Stakes at Pimlico with the win in the El Camino Real Derby. Golden Gate Fields and Pimlico are both owned by 1/ST Racing. By Oscar Performance, Endlessly has won 4 of 5 starts and earned $299,200. As a 2-year-old, Endlessly won two Grade 3 races at a mile on turf – the Del Mar Juvenile Turf and Zuma Beach Stakes at Santa Anita – before finishing eighth by 3 1/2 lengths in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at Santa Anita on Nov. 3 in his final start of the year. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
