See You Around and Ocean Club both scratched out of last Saturday’s Pegasus World Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Gulfstream Park hoping to find an easier spot in this Saturday’s Grade 3, $175,000 Endeavour Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs. While it may be easier, the Endeavour is not easy. A field of 10 was entered for the 1 1/16-mile Endeavour, which along with the Grade 3, $175,000 Tampa Bay Stakes, highlight a 10-race card that begins at 12:15 p.m. See You Around, an Irish-bred daughter of Siyouni, is coming off a neck victory in the Tropical Park Oaks on Dec. 14 at Gulfstream. In her only other U.S. start, See You Around finished sixth of eight in the Grade 3 Pebbles at Aqueduct. Trainer Christophe Clement said a primary reason he scratched from the Pegasus was because she drew the outside in a 12-horse field. See You Around breaks from the rail on Saturday, and Eric Cancel is in from New York to ride. :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing! Be Your Best came back to win the Pegasus Filly and Mare Turf. “Very unlucky, very wide, and got beat 1 1/2 lengths,” Clement said. “She’s always consistent.” Ocean Club, trained by Jack Sisterson, won three times from eight starts in 2024, including the Grade 3 Noble Damsel at Aqueduct last September. Ocean Club also comes out of the Suwannee River, where she finished third by 1 1/4 lengths. “She ran a race in Suwannee River where she might have needed the run,” Sisterson said. Trainer Chad Brown sends out the uncoupled duo of Saffron Moon and Venencia. Saffron Moon, who won an allowance race at Tampa Bay in December 2022, only raced once in 2024, a runner-up finish in a Keeneland allowance on turf. Brown said he was looking to run in a prep for the Pegasus Filly and Mare Turf, but she missed the prep due to a fever. Venencia, who went unraced for 15 months, improved with each of her three races last year, culminating with a neck victory over Breath Away in the Forever Together Stakes at Aqueduct in November. “With her running style, coming off the pace, she’s got a beautiful turn of foot, we didn’t want to fool with Gulfstream’s turf course, it didn’t look like it would suit her,” Brown said, explaining why he opted for Tampa over a race at Gulfstream. Trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. has the uncoupled pair of Libban and Be My Sunshine, the latter finished second in this race last year. Libban has not run since she was eased in the Grade 2 Beldame last October. Infinite Diamond, an allowance winner at Gulfstream in December; Austere, an allowance winner at Fair Grounds in November; and Damaso, beaten a nose in allowance at Tampa on Jan. 3; round out the competitive field. Tampa Bay Stakes Running Bee, beaten a half-length in the Tampa Bay Stakes a year ago, will look to go one spot better in Saturday’s renewal of the 1 1/16-mile turf stakes. After the Tampa Bay, Running Bee went on to win 4 of 7 starts, three of which were stakes including a neck victory in the Artie Schiller on Nov. 2 at Aqueduct. Running Bee was invited to the Pegasus World Cup Turf, but Brown opted not to run there. Brown won that race with Spirit of St Louis. “He doesn’t like Gulfstream, he ran terrible in the Fort Lauderdale, it was his worst race last year,” Brown said. “I spoke with the connections about it, I steered him towards a campaign at Tampa, which hopefully could lead him to the [Old Forester Turf Classic] on Derby Day if he’s good enough. He ran really well at Tampa.” Paros comes into the Tampa Bay riding a four-race winning streak, one that began with a $40,000 claimer at Saratoga on July 24, a race from which trainer Mike Maker claimed him. After allowance wins at Saratoga and Keeneland, Paros won the Prairie Bayou over Turfway Park’s synthetic track. Northern Invader, trained by Cherie DeVaux, makes his first start since finishing third in the four-horse Grade 3 Kelso Stakes last July at Saratoga. DeVaux said Northern Invader needed time off after that race and the decision was made to geld the son of Collected in the interim. “He’s a big, heavy horse who got hot prior to his races,” DeVaux said. “He’s lightened up, not getting as hot. He was always well-behaved.” DeVaux had Northern Invader entered in a stakes at Fair Grounds, but scratched when that race came off the turf. Irish Aces, fifth in last year’s Tampa Bay, is coming out of a narrow defeat to Paros in a third-level allowance at Keeneland last fall. Lorenz, Eldest Son, Card Trick, Fidelightcayut, Possiblemente, and Ninja Star complete the 10-horse field. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
