ARCADIA, Calif. – More than three months after she sustained fractured sesamoids in a workout at Santa Anita, the 2021 champion Echo Zulu continues her recovery at a local veterinary clinic. The 5-year-old Echo Zulu is likely to remain at the clinic for considerable time, according to Scott Blasi, assistant trainer to Steve Asmussen. “We’re still progressing,” Blasi said on Sunday. “We’re not to the point to turn her out or anything like that yet. It’s still a week-by-week thing.” :: Access morning workout reports straight from the tracks and get an edge with DRF Clocker Reports Blasi said that Echo Zulu recently recovered from a foot abscess on the foreleg that was not injured. “She seems to be getting through that,” he said. Echo Zulu has been based at the clinic since late October, shortly after she underwent surgery for the injury. “At this point, she still needs ongoing medical treatment,” Blasi said. “We’re keeping her comfortable and happy. “She’s been her own best friend. She’s slept well and gets off of her feet. She takes care of herself.” The champion 2-year-old filly of 2021, Echo Zulu was in training for the Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita on Nov. 4 when she was injured during a workout. Echo Zulu, who raced for L and N Racing and Winchell Thoroughbreds, won 9 of 11 starts and earned $2,640,375. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
