ARCADIA, Calif. – Echo Zulu continues to recover at a Southern California vet clinic from fractured sesamoids sustained in a workout Oct. 13 at Santa Anita. Echo Zulu, the champion 2-year-old filly of 2021, is expected to remain at the clinic for several weeks, according to Scott Blasi, assistant to trainer Steve Asmussen. “She continues to impress us always,” Blasi said in the Santa Anita stables on Sunday. “She’ll be around here for a while. Every day you get further away is a good day. “I think last week was a good week for her. I’ll be glad after week four, and after week four I’ll be glad after week five.” Echo Zulu is housed at the Chino Valley Equine Clinic about 25 miles southeast of Santa Anita. Echo Zulu faces a lengthy recovery period in which adequate circulation to the affected leg is vital for a positive long-term prognosis. She was in training for the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint, or possibly the Breeders’ Cup Sprint against males, when she was injured. Echo Zulu has won 9 of 11 starts and earned $2,640,375. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
