Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action. 12:55 GP 1st HARMONY ABARRIO (#10, 12-1) did beat over half of the field home in her debut and that was with a lack luster break. Now connections want two turns in only her second start and that is what we want. We spy three sibs that tried routing and here is what they did: 8-0-2-3 for 8K, 30-6-2-3 for 139K, and 2-0-1-1 for 9K. Class drop and added distance along with a recent work all go hand in hand. -Scott Ehlers | Bet this race with DRF Bets 1:48 MTH 3rd SPECIAL AFFAIR (#12, 5-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Kenny Peck). | Bet this race with DRF Bets 1:55 LRL 4th STICKWITHTHECOLORS (#6, 9-2) broke a beat slow, then stalked the winner's slow pace from the inside. Cut the corner into the stretch, then was very game to gain the place slot. Think she can work out a nice tracking trip while outside and in the clear. -Dan Illman | Bet this race with DRF Bets 2:01 GP 3rd BAYERNEE (#7, 6-1) showed good speed in her debut and simply tired late. What if she is better on the grass? Her sire is 11% with first time turf runners. Her dam went 5-1-0-0 on the sod for 40K (won grass debut). Three of eight sibs won on the grass and earned 230K, 193K, and 60K (won grass debut). This barn is 14% with their debut grass runners. This filly draws fine and catches a race light on pace. -Scott Ehlers | Bet this race with DRF Bets 2:06 WO 3rd ZIPPY GIZMO (#6, 15-1) is a longshot possibility in this OS stakes for 3yos on the main turf, over which he was unbeaten last year vs. maidens and in a restricted stakes. Attard's go-to bug Moran takes over on the Dalos homebred. -Ron Gierkink | Bet this race with DRF Bets 2:18 SAR 3rd TAKE THE CHARGE (#7, 8-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Beer). | Bet this race with DRF Bets 2:45 MTH 5th DENYING (#7, 8-1) and LATE CALL exit the same AN1X race, on Haskell Day, and the turf course that day seemed to favor inside runners, and speeds; this pair came from well off the pace, and while the latter finished a nose in front of the former on the former DENYING seemed to be moving best of all through the lane, and he also closed strongly in that loss two back, albeit against lesser. -Kenny Peck | Bet this race with DRF Bets 2:52 SAR 4th BOLT D'PLATA (#10, 12-1) was still green when making his only turf start to date here last summer at this level; has improved since then on dirt; made his first five starts this year in the MSW ranks, then got rained off when dropped to this level on opening day; finally getting to face maiden claimers back to the grass and will be a price with Saez sticking. -Mike Beer | Bet this race with DRF Bets 3:07 GP 5th FORT ATTITUDE (#7, 30-1) should be a big price. His sire is 29% with first turf runners. His dam never tried the weeds and this is her first grass foal. This gelding ran OK 2, 3, 4, and 5 back and missed a Beyer top by two points only four back. This race holds no world beaters and we think this gelding might improve with the surface switch. -Scott Ehlers | Bet this race with DRF Bets 3:27 SAR 5th BOSS OF ALL (#4, 12-1) was facing weaker in her first start back from an extended layoff 17 days ago but ran well there while attending a quick pace, taking over, and only succumbing to a closing winner late; taking it as a positive that she moves up in class off that effort, and she showed that she can be effective from off the pace when switched to turf last year. -Mike Beer | Bet this race with DRF Bets 3:31 LRL 7th CONTINENTALCONGRES (#5, 8-1) has won transferring from turf to dirt in the past, and repeats that move with the speed to get close to the pace. Looked pretty good wiring a second-level allowance over course and trip two back although it must be noted that they ran 1-2-3 all the way around the track. Barn went 4 for the last 12 (33%, $2.73 ROI) going turf to dirt-route. -Dan Illman | Bet this race with DRF Bets 3:57 CBY 4th SHY SHY (#1, 8-1) won her only grass start and it came last summer as a 2YO. Forget that return sprint at Oaklawn where this filly caught an off track. Her most recent was a Beyer top even though she broke last going only five furlongs. She returns to the turf and adds distance which should prove the tipping point all for the leading barn. -Scott Ehlers | Bet this race with DRF Bets 4:15 MTH 8th SOUPER FLY OVER (#2, 5-1) loves to win, with 21 career victories to his credit, but he had almost no chance to rally strongly enough to score in that last one given the extreme speed-friendly race flow; he's way down in price for this and he figures to take a big step forward given an improved set up, which seems likely. -Kenny Peck | Bet this race with DRF Bets 4:45 MTH 9th LADY D'ORO (#6, 7-2) was behind a few of these same runners when last seen but she had a valid excuse, as a slow start meant she had to rush up in the early stages, and she was moving fairly well late; thinking she can improve enough to turn the tables today given a clean getaway as she makes her third start off the layoff. -Kenny Peck | Bet this race with DRF Bets 4:46 GP 8th TEST FACTOR (#7, 5-1) is feeling great and now goes third off the layoff. He returns to two turns and he won his only turf route race. Connections turn this colt around quite quickly. Was two turns the plan all along? -Scott Ehlers | Bet this race with DRF Bets 4:49 WO 8th GRANDSON (#6, 20-1) had no pace to close behind most recently on the main turf and there's ample speed in this nine-furlong Tapeta contest that could set up for him. He had to weave his way through traffic when sixth in his penultimate race on the main track. -Ron Gierkink | Bet this race with DRF Bets 4:57 CBY 6th MIDSHIP MOLLY (#6, 15-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers). | Bet this race with DRF Bets 5:10 SAR 8th CLEAR THE AIR (#4, 6-1) exits a couple of tough trip chances on turf recently; handles all three surfaces, though he has only sprinted on dirt twice since his green debut as a 2yo, and he earned a 94 Beyer in one of those; Walden 4 for 9 so far with runners switching from turf to dirt ($3.65 ROI). -Mike Beer | Bet this race with DRF Bets 5:22 WO 9th GILT EDGE (#1, 8-1) ran hot and cold on the Tapeta before breaking his maiden on the grass a month ago with a daisy-clipper stride under Fukumoto. He breezed a bullet half-mile over the turf training course the other day and could double up at a square price in this seven-furlong allowance on the main course. -Ron Gierkink | Bet this race with DRF Bets 5:55 WO 10th REDNECK REBEL (#1, 20-1) showed little in a pair of Tapeta routes, most recently among four next-out winners, but could turn his form around on the grass in this one-mile inner turf tilt. The son of superb 14% turf sire More Than Ready is out of a mare who dropped two turf winners, including the stakes-placed miler Moral Reasoning. -Ron Gierkink | Bet this race with DRF Bets 5:59 DMR 3rd LADY MONCLAIRE (#5, 8-1) returns from a six-month layoff as top choice in this Cal-bred maiden turf sprint. The pace-presser ran well both starts in January, finishing second and third, and now shortens to five furlongs while adding blinkers. Her stable fires with comebackers; this field came up somewhat light. -Brad Free | Bet this race with DRF Bets 6:19 SAR 10th MR. MENDELSSOHN (#11, 15-1) ran well on synthetic when stretched out earlier this year but he looked much more comfortable on turf when easily handling maidens at the end of April; took an early bump and wound up far back saving ground in that last one, and he was between horses for much of the stretch run while trying to rally; drops looking to do better and will be a price. -Mike Beer | Bet this race with DRF Bets 7:59 DMR 7th DOUBLE JAB (#9, 5-1) returns from a layoff to the turf-sprint course on which he scored an impressive maiden win last summer followed by a runner-up finish at this Cal-bred N1X level in fall. He runs well fresh, has a versatile pressing style, and looks like the fastest in the field based on his 2023 form. Andy Mathis-trained comebackers off six months or more have won at a 32 percent clip (24-for-75) the past five years. Most were in Northern California, Mathis is 2-for-10 in SoCal with six-month layoffs. -Brad Free | Bet this race with DRF Bets
