Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action. 12:15 LRL 1st SEA SHANTY (#3, 6-1) broke two lengths slow at Penn National, then rushed up to save ground in midpack behind a moderate pace. Never threatened while drifting out slightly, but that race produced two next-out winners (the winner, Up for It, next placed in a first-level allowance at Penn National with a 68 Beyer, and recently won a quarter starter at Delaware with a 67). Barn went 6 for the last 11 (55%, $3.51 ROI) with horses returning from two-month plus layoffs. -Dan Illman | Bet this race with DRF Bets 12:30 KD 1st Can't resist TELLER TO WIN (#7, 15-1) at a long price despite the very strange gap in works. Last published breeze Aug. 4, but if she wasn't in steady work, why would Abreu ship her from New York to Franklin, KY? She's also a NY-bred, and rather than just try statebreds, they go for this open race? Unraced dam's only other foal to race She's a Mia a useful turf horse. The trainer and jockey have clicked in limited partnership. -Marcus Hersh | Bet this race with DRF Bets 1:40 KD 3rd BARBERINI (#1, 20-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Marcus Hersh). | Bet this race with DRF Bets 1:54 LRL 4th SUNSHINE FROLIC (#6, 6-1) stalked a solid pace from in betwee at Colonial, raced in behind foes turning into the stretch, was steadied from in between, eased to the far outside, then finished with mild interest and an okay gallop-out. Lightly-raced 4-year-old has upside and might get another good pace to attack. -Dan Illman 2:48 WO 4th EMPOWER (#4, 10-1) didn't show much in two Tapeta races but could final his calling on the grass. The handsome bay is out of a turf winner who dropped four winners from five turf runners, including stakes winner My Girl Sky. -Ron Gierkink | Bet this race with DRF Bets 3:38 MTH 7th ANY SUGAR HONEY (#4, 20-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Kenny Peck). | Bet this race with DRF Bets 3:58 WO 6th GREAVETTE (#6, 15-1) attended the pace before fading to finish six lengths back in a recent N1X turf route at Saratoga. The two-time Tapeta stakes winner at Presque Isle could make some noise on the turnback to 6 1/2 furlongs as she meets older opposition for the second time. -Ron Gierkink | Bet this race with DRF Bets 4:33 WO 7th MIRAMICHI (#1, 15-1) should be the controlling speed in this NW2 contest if apprentice Adams sends her from the outset. She nearly won a race at this level three back on the grass. -Ron Gierkink | Bet this race with DRF Bets 4:34 MTH PICCOLO DIAVOLO (#2, 5-1) seemed to have some run when he was forced to steady behind runners in the lane, and he wasn't pushed hard late once it was clear he would not be able to recover enough to get a better check; that was his first start on the grass and he has lots of room to improve with that experience. -Kenny Peck | Bet this race with DRF Bets 4:47 GP 8th BRAWN (#4, 5-1) is feeling good and gets some pace to chase. We love improving 3YO's at this time of the year. A pair of recent works round out the appeal. LORENZ puts the blinkers ON but should still sit off the pace. Class jump is big but this barn seems capable of anything. Zayas leaves for the Orseno horse so Van Dyke gets to be the hero today. Oh, this barn is 23% with this type of equipment change. -Scott Ehlers | Bet this race with DRF Bets 5:18 KD 9th YELLOW CARD (#4, 15-1) had a rough go of things in the Mahoney but still came home pretty fast, beaten only a couple lengths, a moral victory after the trip he endured. Turf debut two back produced a strong win over older rivals, no small feat for a June 3yo. Looks from here like one of several plausible winners, yet the 15-1 might be about right. -Marcus Hersh | Bet this race with DRF Bets 5:43 WO 9th ENGLISH CONQUEROR (#3, 12-1) set a course record three back in an N2X at Aqueduct and then trailed in the G2 Bowling Green at Saratoga before a flat third in a slow-paced stakes at Delaware, in which he wasn't able to get covered up. He's reacquiring Lasix in this overnight stakes and drew favorably towards the inside in a large field with ample speed. This might be the spot where he can notch his first stakes. -Ron Gierkink | Bet this race with DRF Bets 5:54 GP 10th CLASSIC OF COURSE (#1, 4-1) has run well twice on this dirt. His last race came back key when 3 of 7 returned to win with Beyer speed figs of 70, 66, and 76. This colt has a recent work but is a bit unlucky to draw the rail. Versatile style is a plus and Jaramillo is 30% for this barn. If looking for a knock, then this barn is only 5% second off this type of layoff. -Scott Ehlers | Bet this race with DRF Bets 5:55 KD 10th This looks on paper like a race for a closer. Not sure Cathkin Peak or Sugoi have the pace to lead, but Balladeer has set fast splits before, and Chief Little Rock has a ton of pace. Yet I'm guessing GET SMOKIN (#4, 12-1) is the one intent on leading, and he comfortably carried his speed 1 1/2 miles capturing last year's Turf Cup. Third start of form cycle, plenty of rest since holding gallantly off a strong pace in the UN - won't be 12-1, but will be playable. -Marcus Hersh | Bet this race with DRF Bets 9:26 RP 5th NERKY ROSE (#2, 8-1) has been a consistent sort as a rule so drawing a line through that last start. He owns a series of competitive Beyer Speed Figures and draws a useful kind of post. -Mary Rampellini | Bet this race with DRF Bets 9:55 RP 6th PRINCE RAMA (#3, 6-1) has been favored in each of his last five starts and he's won two of those races and was second or third in the other outs. He would seem to have reason to move forward in his second start since April. -Mary Rampellini | Bet this race with DRF Bets
