Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action. 12:08 TAM 1st PURE ELEGANCE (#6, 9-2) broke slowly in that last one but she moved up fairly quickly while in hand and only weakened late after a move on the turn; prior two tries over this strip were against open claimers. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race  12:10 AQU 1st ASMODEUS (#2, 8-1) breezed a solid 10-flat last March before going for over $100k; failed to get a start on last summer after appearing to train up strongly and has been back on the tab consistently since November; should be fit for a capable first-out trainer. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race  12:38 TAM 2nd TRULY A DREAM (#3, 9-2) is a DRF Best Bet (Kenny Peck). | Get PPs for this race  1:08 TAM 3rd MISTER FERNANDO (#5, 6-1) was against the race flow in each of his last two starts, and though he was off the board three back he moved prematurely there and weakened in the lane; doesn't meet the deepest of fields and may be good enough given some racing luck. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race 1:30 OP 2nd PAYNE (#7, 9-2) exits a quick race and note the winner earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 102, tied for second-best number at the current meet at Oaklawn. Earlier in his career, PAYNE faced such top class runners as Speaker's Corner and Elite Power. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race 1:41 AQU 4th DERWIN'S PAYNTER (#9, 8-1) debuted for a lower tag in a race that didn't come back fast, but she did some running in that spot while making an early run after a slow start and carrying on gamely to the end after a front-running winner; needs to improve but that debut might be better than it looks. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race  1:55 LRL 5th LARAMORE (#2, 6-1) must improve after two disappointing runs, but perhaps the addition of Lasix will help her get back to the form of her game victory over course and distance three back. Outrun three wide here last month, she never got into it with only a one-paced finish. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race  2:23 LRL 6th MO MARTHA (#4, 10-1) pressed a quick pace three wide, then couldn't step with the likes of odds-on stakes-winner Chickieness (returned to finish second in the Xtra Heat Stakes with a 66 Beyer) traveling a sharp 5 1/2 furlongs. Like to see this barn work them long (two one-mile works) in preparation for a race, and this filly has the pedigree (by Uncle Mo; dam won at a mile on turf) and body type to appreciate stretching out for the first time. Should show speed. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race 2:27 GP 8th MARYQUITECONTRARY (#7, 5-1) overcame very wide trip to run her best yet in the Rampart and may be even better suited to seven furlongs. Will try her right back even in the face of what figures to be a very formidable opponent in OBLIGATORY who is strictly the one to beat at odds on. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race  2:53 AQU 6th LIAM'S KISS (#2, 9-2) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Beer). | Get PPs for this race 2:54 TUP 2nd RAPPORT (#2, 6-1) is a 7YO making only his 2nd start but his works are well spaced and he ends up with a barn that is 20% with new runners. New gelding puts the blinkers ON and finds a logical spot. Lone race came back key when 3 of 10 returned to win with figs of 79, 80, and 85. Vergara gets a leg up and is 27% for this barn. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race  3:20 TAM 7th AWKWARD PAUSE (#11, 12-1) was off slowly in each of his two starts but he closed nicely through the lane each time in a couple of deceptively good efforts; alert getaway would certainly help his cause, and if he can get away cleanly today he can move way up. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race  3:23 TUP 3rd SECRET MISTRESS (#5, 5-1) just ran a nice second on this sod and did so at almost 8-1. She is bred to love the green with her 346 turf Tomlinson so further improvement is more likely than not. She figures as good a trip as anyone and regular rider gets a leg up. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race 3:28 AQU 7th DOUBLE CROWN (#5, 20-1) was a big price when parlaying a good trip into a big upset in the Grade 2 Kelso at the end of October, though that kept his streak of strong performances in one-turn races intact; has ready excuses for his three starts since; cuts back with good tactical speed and is likely to be a fair price once again. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race  3:42 OP 6th JACKMAN (#12, 8-1) is appealing as a seven-time winner facing some less-experienced rivals. He also draws a post that might give Mojica options. As for the race he exits, the runner-up was to have started as a chief contender in the second race Saturday at Oaklawn. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race 4:06 GP 11th WAKANAKA (#3, 5-1) closed out 2022 in high style and might open 2023 the same way with a similar effort. Finished in front of a pair of next out graded stakes winners in the process that day. Stretch running sort should get necessary help up front. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race  4:32 SA 3rd Last-out maiden winner SHOCKING GREY (#5, 5-1) is lightly raced and on her way up; many of her rivals in this Cal-bred turf mile are stuck at the first condition. 'GREY finally got a good trip last time switching to Juan Hernandez, and won comfortably. The runner-up finished more than five lengths clear of third. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race  4:40 GP 12th ATONE (#3, 12-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Welsch). | Get PPs for this race  5:40 GP 13th This year's Pegasus a terrific betting race with the trips in bulky field likely deciding ultimate outcome amongst a pretty well matched field. DEFUNDED (#5, 6-1) in peak form at the present time and Baffert said "I wouldn't be sending him if I didn't think he could win." A lot of people will think that too. Don't expect to see 6-1 but should be a decent enough price for trainer who has already won this race twice. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race 5:58 TUP 8th STREET SHADOW (#2, 10-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers). | Get PPs for this race 6:26 OP 11th DELTA MOON (#10, 5-1) has an age edge on most of these as she is 4. LASSIE MY GIRL owns the field's best Beyer Figure. The winner of the race she exits was to have started as a top contender in a Friday race at Oaklawn. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race 7:55 GG 9th BRONZE LADY's (#2, 6-1) speed may lead to a win in her second start. Bronze Lady set the pace in a $25,000 claimer for maidens on Jan. 6, yielding her advantage in the final sixteenth to race favorite A Rousing Babe. While this maiden race represents a jump in class for Bronze Lady, she appears to be the quickest filly in a field of nine. -Steve Andersen | Get PPs for this race
