Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action. 12:00 GP 1st Quite a bit of early speed in the noon ET opener would seem to set things up for a capable closer such as IAMBUTTER (#11, 5-1), assuming Reyes can get him into a calm early rhythm after leaving smoothly; referring to a couple of priors when he showed an ability to rate for a barn (Avila) enjoying a productive spring-summer meet. -Marty McGee 1:00 WO 1st OPTIMYSTICAL (#7, 12-1) stumbled at the break and got away slowly in his disappointing comeback. He’s adding Lasix for this shorter $7.5K maiden claimer, and note that Salles was aboard for his only good race last year. -Ron Gierkink :: Get DRF's Betting Strategies for Del Mar and Saratoga 1:10 LRL 2nd FAIR CATCH (#9, 12-1) took to turf like a duck to water as he withstood some early pace rivals en route to wiring two next-out winners as well as subsequent 67-Beyer performer Confusion Baby Boy (third in $25,000 ‘beaten’ claimer at Monmouth). -Dan Illman 1:17 MTH 2nd HONORABLE SERVICE (#1, 12-1) caught the eye with a decent late run in his seasonal Monmouth debut last time out, and he could prove tough in the late stages today given a clean trip from the fence and a little help from the speeds; the latter shouldn’t be an issue, as this sprint is loaded with pace. -Kenny Peck 1:40 LRL 3rd No real excuses for REIN SUPREME’s (#5, 9-2) recent chalky defeat as she got up close to a moderate pace, had to work hard to put away the longshot pacesetter and didn’t have much pop in the stretch. Think she should be getting sharper as she progresses fitness-wise in third start of the form cycle, however, and drops into a claimer for the first time since her win for $12,500 back on January 25. Expect a stalking trip as she seeks her tenth lifetime victory. -Dan Illman 2:35 MTH 5th COROT (#4, 6-1) drops in price, yes, but this is a decidedly better spot than he was in last time in terms of competition; he was off the pace there but she has more speed than that, and if he can break with the field he could be the one to catch on the subtle but important move from five furlongs to 5 1/2 panels. -Kenny Peck 3:14 WO 5th ROOKIE GIRL (#7, 12-1) sizzled five-eighths in :58 on the turf training course July 19, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see her prevail at first asking in this OS/$40K sprint on the main turf. Hoyte, a longtime exercise rider for Casse, has the mount on the daughter of graded turf stakes winner Rookie Sensation. -Ron Gierkink 3:40 GP 8th Not much reason to believe MILLIONAIRE RUNNER (#6, 5-1) can’t win right back for this open $6,250 tag after blowing doors in the soup 3 weekends ago; yes, there certainly are new pieces in place here to make this a different type of race, but no denying that was a welcome breakthrough. -Marty McGee 4:10 LRL 8th DREAM DOCTOR (#5, 6-1) graduated at Belmont following a 166-day layoff, won his 2018 debut at Suffolk after 205 days off and was beaten a combined 2 1/4 lengths in the other two starts following layoffs of 200 days or more. He runs well fresh and is expected to do so again in first race following 303-day break here. The main concern isn’t the time away, but the apparent lack of pace as he’s a one-run closer that needs some hitting up front in order to maximize his late kick. -Dan Illman 4:14 GP 9th Sensational debut by SOCIAL EXCLUSION (#10, 9-2) places her among the core of plausible winners in this highly competitive renewal of the Desert Vixen. Klesaris not necessarily known for his work with precocious babies such as this, but he sure knows what to do with a good one; looking for this miss to trip out nicely following a quick getaway from her outer box. -Marty McGee 4:32 MTH 9th VINCENTO (#4, 4-1) takes a substantial class drop here, coming out of an open claimer at Belmont and now facing non-winners of a race in six months, and that last Beyer makes him a clear danger; will be looking to make the last run but there seems to be ample pace to his outside. -Kenny Peck 4:40 LRL 9th There probably wasn’t a 3-year-old filly on the circuit that was beating the extremelytalented Hello Beautiful once the odds-on favorite shook loose through moderate fractions on June 20, but INDY TAKES CHARGE (#5, 3-1) was a solid, albeit wellbeaten, second after rallying along the inside. She finished ahead of two next-out winners in that spot and should show enough stretch-out speed to get close to the pace in her route debut. -Dan Illman 4:53 WO 8th RIDEFORTHECAUSE (#7, 6-1) won a maiden special on the inner turf last September, and is coming off a flat fourth behind three classy rivals at this N2X level on the main turf. -Ron Gierkink 5:01 LAD 3rd INTERATIFWITHLEU (#1, 4-1) has speed and the rail. She goes second time routing and figures a good price. If able to get an early breather, she could prove troublesome to run down. A pure pace play. -Scott Ehlers 5:04 MTH 10th CODRINGTON (#2, 9-2) was stuck behind that dawdling pace last time out and jockey Antonio Gallardo decided to take a shot with an early bid, moving up quickly down the backstretch and into the turn, and while she flattened out some late that was a deceptively good effort; thinking MIKO can pressure SIDEREAL some this time around and change the pace complexion, benefiting this mare, as well as O’MALLEY (#1, 6-1). -Kenny Peck 6:28 WO 11th PRIDEOFDISTINCTION (#2, 5-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Ron Gierkink). 6:49 LAD 7th LEBKUCHEN (#4, 5-1) has tried the turf twice and run well both times. She wanted the grass in her most recent but it was pulled from the turf. Connections could have dropped this filly into claimers especially after most recent but remain in the allowance ranks. Race flow is fine if all stay in. -Scott Ehlers 10:00 DMR 11th CHEERFUL CHARM (#1, 5-1) had some trouble in her turf route debut at SA June 19. She can benefit from that outing, has worked well since and lures Prat. She’s kin to multiple turf winner Matter of Luck. – Michael Hammersly
