Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action. 12:05 SAR 1st ESCONDIDO (#6, 15-1) debuted in a live race here back in June, and he made a run in that spot before weakening in the stretch to finish fourth; he didn't run as well last time, but he stumbled pretty badly at the start of that race and was taken in hand early on as though something was amiss; contends if he can rebound. -Mike Beer | Bet this race with DRF Bets 12:55 GP 1st COMPLETE ONEEIGHTY (#9, 6-1) is by a 21% debut sire (2YO's only) and a 16% debut turf sire. His dam was un-raced. Of 6 sibs to race, 5 won and 4 beat winners. Three state-side runners failed to win on the grass but one did hit the board. We spy another sibling that did win in Japan. Works are well spaced and plentiful and this barn has won with a debut runner at a mile or more. -Scott Ehlers | Bet this race with DRF Bets 1:25 KD 1st The lone work on video for GLOBAL ALLURE (#4, 10-1) came more than two months ago on dirt - but at least that's something to go on, more than can be said of most of the horses in these first two races. Thought she worked well enough going in a group of three, as trainer B Walsh often does with young horses. Seven works since that one, several of them fast, and I don't see why this horse wouldn't come to her debut live. -Marcus Hersh | Bet this race with DRF Bets 1:36 WO 2nd KINGSCOTE (#4, 6-1) finished on the fringes in all three of his appearances at the meet and could put it all together while switching from turf to the Tapeta for his second try at this $15K NW2 class. -Ron Gierkink | Bet this race with DRF Bets 1:43 SAR 4th MASTERWORK (#3, 15-1) had a bit of a trip when finishing behind CLOUD FOREST back in January at Aqueduct, and he was racing in good form at that time while up in class and flashing speed in those longer routes; had no chance to make the lead in that last one with big class-dropper Unlimitedpotential powering clear right away; off the claim for low-profile connections but he is faster than he looks at a price, and he broke his maiden off the claim for this owner last year. -Mike Beer | Bet this race with DRF Bets 2:21 MTH 4th FLOGE (#7, 9-2) benefited from a favorable race flow in his win at this distance two back but she should once again get a quick, contested pace to chase in this sprint; clearly retains her very sharp form, with that route score in her latest her sixth win in her last seven starts. -Kenny Peck | Bet this race with DRF Bets 3:07 GP 5th BARRY THE BUILDER (#7, 10-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers). | Bet this race with DRF Bets 3:10 CBY 3rd SAM SEZ (#3, 10-1) ran better two back and that was versus restricted foes just like these. This gelding gets better race flow today. He has won three times on this dirt, draws fine, and figures a good price. -Scott Ehlers | Bet this race with DRF Bets 3:46 MTH 7th SUMMER'S COMIN (#4, 10-1) maybe a live longshot today. She was well off the bard in each of her last two starts but she was caught well off the pace behind slow fractions in that last one vs. open company, and she had a terrible trip in her prior, yet was moving well enough late while well beaten in the late stages, and she galloped out with some interest; needs pace, and a clean trip, but the price makes her worth considering. -Kenny Peck | Bet this race with DRF Bets 5:08 SAR 10th ROUGH DRAFT (#8, 15-1) sprinted effectively early on, and he has endured some tough trips going longer recently; isn't exactly reliable, but he has improved since being claimed by Abreu and is interesting cutting back at a price. -Mike Beer | Bet this race with DRF Bets 5:14 CBY 6th GENERAL BATTLE AXE (#8, 8-1) is just better on the grass, right? He got Beyers of 64 in back to back turf starts at Tampa and did so versus much better. His only start on this sod came four back on a yielding sod and this guy was right there with a furlong to go before tiring some. Stakes foes were a bit much last out. Regular rider stays put and is 23% for this barn. If looking for a knock then this barn is only 4% going dirt to turf. -Scott Ehlers | Bet this race with DRF Bets 5:16 KD 8th Even by the standards this summer at Ellis Park, where the turf generally was super firm and very fast, VESTURE (#5, 8-1) was really flying along on a hot 1 1/4-mile pace last out. Granted, the winner stalked the pace from second, but I think Vesture went too fast for his own good, ran all right in defeat -- especially coming off a career-best -- and can rate more effectively in front. Comes into this one fresh with encouraging workout times. -Marcus Hersh | Bet this race with DRF Bets 5:50 KD 9th With Funtastic Again likely to take his chances in the Mint Millions, GOLIAD (#1, 8-1) is the controlling speed of this race, and on opening day of this seven-card meet, at least, that was not a bad thing. Nineeleventurbo, in fact, broke from the rail in a race very similar to this, the $500K Tapit, and nearly went wire to wire. This is the right kind of horse, based on his Thunder Road in February, to let roll along on the lead, open up, and bottom out the chasers while putting the closers too far out of the game. -Marcus Hersh | Bet this race with DRF Bets 6:00 WO 10th SERENADING HALL (#9, 12-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Ron Gierkink). | Bet this race with DRF Bets 6:31 CBY 8th DIXIE GIRL TO (#3, 6-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers). | Bet this race with DRF Bets 6:31 DMR 5th A pair of 16-start maidens are the one-two choices in this maiden-40. Obviously, neither is trustworthy. PALAGIO (#4, 9-2) ran better last time than his fourth-place finish indicates. He was three-wide on the backstretch, made a premature move to go from sixth to first, led into the lane and tired. He probably pulled the trigger too soon. He tries a rider switch, and with patient handling can wear them down. -Brad Free | Bet this race with DRF Bets 6:48 SAR 13th WILD NUGGET (#12, 8-1) is by an underrated sire and out of a dam who was an eight-time dirt sprint winner; debuts with Lasix on for a trainer who is 6 for his last 19 with first time starters (32%, $5.42 ROI). -Mike Beer | Bet this race with DRF Bets
