Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action. 12:39 GP 2nd VYBES (#1, 9-2) has shown plenty of promise in the a.m. although rail draw not ideal for beginners. -Mike Welsch | Bet this race with DRF Bets 12:50 AQU 1st HARD TRAVELER (#4, 6-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Beer). | Bet this race with DRF Bets 12:55 LRL 2nd APOLLO RISING (#4, 10-1) worked out an easy trip when wiring quarter "beaten" claimers at Aqueduct. Cleared to the lead and the rail through soft fractions, was urged along on the turn, then sprinted home in a race where they ran 1-2 all the way around. This looks like a tougher spot (four next-out runners from that 12/7 start, none hit the board; 70 Beyer top), but he's excelled at this testing distance in both starts off the layoff, and might receive another comfortable on-the-pace trip. -Dan Illman | Bet this race with DRF Bets 1:04 TAM 2nd OLD TOWN ROAD (#2, 12-1) was off the board in his seasonal debut but he was off the pace in that first start off the layoff, and inside speed held the edge on that opening day card; has license to take a big step forward with that race under his belt. -Kenny Peck | Bet this race with DRF Bets 1:25 LRL 3rd CASHPOINT (#5, 6-1) is by Take Charge Indy, who scores with 18% of his older (3-year-olds and up) debut runners. The dam was a stakes-winning synthetic sprinter (69 synthetic Beyer top), and a half-sister to stakes-placed dirt sprinter Chelsea Barton (won debut, 75 dirt Beyer). The second dam was a Grade 3-winning dirt miler. -Dan Illman | Bet this race with DRF Bets 1:39 GP 4th FUJI FIRE (#6, 9-2) a well bred sort being kin to both Firenze Fire and Andiamo a Firenze and well spotted at first asking for mid-tag. Lures red hot Paco for the assignment. Tab board for further clues. -Mike Welsch | Bet this race with DRF Bets 1:47 AQU 3rd BEHIND THE COUCH (#3, 8-1) ran better than it looks at this level two back when forced to chase wide all the way and staying gamely through the stretch in a race that wasn't coming back to her; dropped last time and ran well again while chasing a dominant, front-running favorite to no avail; consistent mare can save some early ground and might have a favorable setup this time. -Mike Beer | Bet this race with DRF Bets 2:26 OP 3rd CREME DE LA CHROME (#7, 9-2) is admirable for his consistent nature. He went 5-for-8 last year and in his other starts an second. This marks his first out at Oaklawn. -Mary Rampellini | Bet this race with DRF Bets 2:39 GP 6th UPSTREET (#5, 8-1) ran a credible third despite walking out of gate, losing considerable ground on turn when back at this level for 2023 finale. Might catch enough pace to run down with a luckier trip. -Mike Welsch | Bet this race with DRF Bets 3:18 AQU 6th BONNE CHANCE (#2, 8-1) has faced stakes rivals in all three starts since her solid debut at Saratoga (two of those over wet tracks), and she had trouble at the start of that last one when turned back to sprint; finally properly spotted, this time with Lasix on. -Mike Beer | Bet this race with DRF Bets 3:20 LRL 7th THEA'S THEME (#2, 20-1) broke in a bit at Penn National, battled with three others while in between foes, was outpaced along the rail on the turn, then steadily tired in the stretch. Best races recently have come out of town, but she has the speed to get close to the pace at a solid mutuel. Lopez departs for Sweet Talia. -Dan Illman | Bet this race with DRF Bets 3:25 OP 5th CHAPARRITA (#4, 5-1) ran a credible third in her Oaklawn debut last time and can move forward for the start. She has recency on the capable TENACIOUS LADY, who is making her first start since October. -Mary Rampellini | Bet this race with DRF Bets 3:33 TAM 7th CADILLAC JUSTICE (#9, 15-1) prompted the early leader in a race that ultimately set up well for the closers, and he also landed in a race featuring a good amount of speed in that first start against winners, two back, and he faded late; seems to land in a much better race here in terms of the pace scenario and he can steal this if he can finally get clear in the opening stages. -Kenny Peck | Bet this race with DRF Bets 4:03 TAM 8th MR JACK (#3, 12-1) faded and was off the board in his first start off the claim but that was no easy trip, as he was close-up from the start and he moved prematurely in a race which ultimately set up very well for the closers; could well improve today given a better-timed run from just off the pace. -Kenny Peck | Bet this race with DRF Bets 4:15 GG 2nd The first-time starter PURPLE MOUNTAIN (#7, 6-1) has a few things in her favor in this $25,000 claimer for maidens. She is by Upstart, who wins with a sharp 15 percent of his debut runners, and is out of Red Hot Bullet, the dam of two first-time winners. Purple Mountain has fair workouts and that may be sufficient to win this six-furlong race for trainer Blaine Wright, who does well with debut runners. -Steve Andersen | Bet this race with DRF Bets 4:33 TAM 9th DIOSA CATRINA (#8, 5-1) moves back to the grass for the first time since September and she does seem to be at her best on this surface; she draws wide for her first try over this course but she does have the positional speed to get into the game immediately. -Kenny Peck | Bet this race with DRF Bets 5:22 GG 4th When FAR WEST (#5, 8-1) was in the midst of a six-win season in 2022, the gelding often raced on or near the lead in claiming races at a mile for trainer Isidro Tamayo. The gelding did not have the same running style for most of a winless campaign in eight races last year, ending the year in conditional $20,000 claimers for sprinters. -Steve Andersen | Bet this race with DRF Bets 5:22 OP 9th GUNFLASH (#11, 4-1) might get an ideal setup in this spot as there appears to be a good amount of speed in the race. -Mary Rampellini | Bet this race with DRF Bets
