Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action. 12:10 GP 1st BOLKIN (#5, 5-1) may just be a morning glory after being backed to 3-2 at first asking and staggering home following early pace duel. Continues to work well so gets one more chance dropping another notch in company for today's opener. -Mike Welsch | Bet this race with DRF Bets 12:54 LRL 2nd CAPTAIN CARDO (#2, 8-1) has won going sprint to route in the past, and might have been compromised just a bit by an inside, speed-friendly track last month. Outsprinted to last behind a fast pace, he swung five wide turning for home, then closed well with a good gallop-out. Late-runner could use some pace help for barn that sent out sprint to route winners Dashing d'Artagnan (57-1 odds) and Sweet Heidelberg (2-1) since 12/23. -Dan Illman | Bet this race with DRF Bets 1:04 TAM 2nd PASTA SALAD RHONDA (#2, 6-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Kenny Peck). | Bet this race with DRF Bets 1:23 LRL 3rd STELLARS IN CHARGE (#4, 8-1) is a half-brother to stakes-placed dirt router Rocky Tough (92 dirt Beyer) out of a winning half to stakes-winning dirt sprinter Storm in May (99 dirt Beyer). Like this work tab with the bullet five-eighths breeze followed by a three-furlong gate blowout. -Dan Illman | Bet this race with DRF Bets 1:34 TAM 3rd QUEENS RANSOM (#4, 15-1) was overmatched in that last one and she failed to last when on the lead two back, but she's at her best when she can take back and make a late run; there's a good amount of speed in this field and she should be very well set up if the fractions are quick and contested and she reverts to stalking tactics. -Kenny Peck | Bet this race with DRF Bets 2:17 AQU 4th This is a tough $40k claimer for ALTERNATE REALITY (#4, 15-1) while facing several rivals that are capable of running faster than he has ever run - at least on figures; still think he is underrated as he stretches back out after a game try sprinting at this level last month, that after stretching out to score under strong handling over weaker two back; needs his best but will be a price this time. -Mike Beer | Bet this race with DRF Bets 2:47 AQU 5th TRUE EMPRESS (#8, 9-2) was a nose away from bringing a six-race winning streak into her return to this circuit last time, and she might have a valid excuse for her underwhelming performance that day while catching the kind of wet track that she is not at her best over; might rate the benefit of the doubt if the track comes up fast this time. -Mike Beer | Bet this race with DRF Bets 2:52 LRL 6th FEDERAL OFFENSE (#10, 6-1) broke well from tough outside post, set a three-ply pace heading into the backstretch, then relaxed kindly to prompt those solid fractions. Went after the leader on the second turn, loomed boldly, and just couldn't settle things in between the two chalks. Might opt for the stalking tactics that resulted in good runner-up effort at Pimlico during the summer. -Dan Illman | Bet this race with DRF Bets 2:55 OP 4th There appear to be a host of capable sorts in a competitive race. AIN'T THAT A KICK (#2, 20-1) has reason to move forward in his second start over the local strip. -Mary Rampellini | Bet this race with DRF Bets 3:37 GP 8th GOLDEN GHOST (#2, 9-2) gets tepid vote in very contentious main event. Well posted near the inside off her best yet. Oddly loses Tyler to Matz's Parish Lane but picks up Paco, projects forwardly placed throughout. -Mike Welsch | Bet this race with DRF Bets 3:55 OP 6th HALAGA (#5, 9-2) makes a rare appearance on dirt and like the sharp work she turned over the local strip. -Mary Rampellini | Bet this race with DRF Bets 4:03 TAM 8th SNEAKINESS (#8, 15-1) takes the blinkers off and that should help him to relax more in the opening stages, which would be an edge if the fractions are quick and contested, as expected; he was well up the track when last seen but he was against the prevailing bias on that day, as inside speeds held the advantage. -Kenny Peck | Bet this race with DRF Bets 4:16 AQU 8th CLOUD FOREST (#4, 5-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Beer). | Bet this race with DRF Bets 4:22 LRL 9th PERTURB (#4, 15-1), listed as a Laurel vet scratch on 11/17 and 12/22, moves turf to dirt and sprint to route after being wired in grassy Colonial sprint 154 days ago. The runner-up from that race returned to finish third in a $50,000 maiden claimer on Gulfstream dirt with a 45 Beyer. Might have found the right group for barn that went 4 for 19 (21%, $3.97 ROI) between 12/15 and 1/7. -Dan Illman | Bet this race with DRF Bets 4:33 TAM 9th THOUGHT (#5, 8-1) has been posting strong figures at Gulfstream and he figures to fare well in his first start over this track if he's able to run to them; his tactical speed is a big reason for his success and he should be well spotted from the start under jockey Antonio Gallardo. -Kenny Peck | Bet this race with DRF Bets 5:45 GG 4th ALONG CAME JOANN (#7, 5-1) finished a well-beaten second in a $25,000 claimer for maidens on Dec. 3 in her first start in 13 months, and should gain enough from that performance to beat a similar field at 5 1-2 furlongs. Trainer Steve Sherman has an excellent record with runners having their second starts following lengthy layoffs, and Along Came Joann has a few decent three-furlong workouts in recent weeks. -Steve Andersen | Bet this race with DRF Bets 7:45 GG 8th The first-time starter CREATION (#3, 8-1) races against a field of three other debut runners and four entrants with experience that have fair form, at best. Creation, trained by Blaine Wright, has worked well for his debut, notably three furlongs in 36 seconds last Saturday that suggest he will not be far from the front in this race at 5 1-2 furlongs. Creation is by Stanford, who has a strong record with debut runners, and is out of a dam who produced a debut winner. -Steve Andersen | Bet this race with DRF Bets
