Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action. 12:52 LRL 2nd JOHN HALL (#5, 10-1) listed as a Laurel vet scratch (illness) on 6/26, doesn't have much speed, and that usually leaves him with too much work to do. That being said, he ran pretty well last time when wired by odds-on Borracho in a slow-paced race over a speed-friendly track. Outrun early, he saved ground on the turn, split rivals into the stretch, angled back to the rail and finished with interest and a good gallop-out. -Dan Illman | Bet this race with DRF Bets 12:55 GP 1st PARAKEET (#1, 8-1) ran better last out and that was only his second grass start. He was denied a clean trip on top of that. This horse is bred to like the grass. New barn is 10% off the claim. Perhaps this rail draw will give jockey some early options. -Scott Ehlers | Bet this race with DRF Bets 1:37 WO 2nd SWERVIN MERVYN (#9, 8-1) debuted with a sixth in a key OS/$40K contest and a three-wide trip over an inside-biased track led to his downfall most recently for $25K. The 4yo is dropping off a cliff to the bottom maiden class and has seemingly found his friends. -Ron Gierkink | Bet this race with DRF Bets 1:44 SAR 2nd SHAM'S PRIDE (#3, 5-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Beer). | Bet this race with DRF Bets 2:21 LRL 5th ONCE AN EAGLE (#11, 6-1) purchased for $16,000 in June, might have found a home over this circuit with good-looking maiden win 20 days ago. Tracked solid fractions (23.46; 23.37) while two-three wide, was placed on a hard chase to go after the loose leader, gradually grinded that one down, and had enough to beat back the closer. The fourth-finisher then placed in a quarter maiden claimer at Colonial with a 58 Beyer. Seems like a tactical sort that can settle in midpack behind a decent pace. -Dan Illman | Bet this race with DRF Bets 2:28 MTH 2nd FESTINATE (#2, 5-2) is a DRF Best Bet (Kenny Peck). | Bet this race with DRF Bets 2:41 WO 4th CAHIRA'S BLESSING (#2, 9-2) posted two gate-to-wire victories last summer under Vives before going into the dumper. She could lead all the way in this 7 1/2-furlong inner turf tilt in lane 3 in the third start of her form cycle, with the hot Vives back after a one-race absence. -Ron Gierkink | Bet this race with DRF Bets 3:13 WO 5th ECHO WITH LAUGHTER (#2, 6-1) attended a slow pace before making the lead in the stretch and then weakened late to second when going from 5 1/2 to seven furlongs last out. Shortening up to six and a half furlongs may be to his benefit and it wouldn't be surprising to see him wire the field under regular rider Vives. -Ron Gierkink | Bet this race with DRF Bets 3:19 LRL 7th GIFT OF GAB (#6, 10-1) received a nice confidence boost when winning at odds-on at Penn National. Tracked outside, deftly dropped into the pocket on the turn, eased to the two path turning for home, then was on her way. Bested two next-out winners in that spot, and can set up shop from close to the pace for barn that went 5 for the last 16 (31%, $2.84 ROI) with last-out winners returning on turf. -Dan Illman | Bet this race with DRF Bets 3:27 SAR 5th LUNA LOVE (#3, 10-1) took needed class relief two starts back at Gulfstream and was unlucky that day while forced very wide off the turn before racing on gamely late; got rained off when entered back at this level earlier in the meet; rates another chance back on grass. -Mike Beer | Bet this race with DRF Bets 4:02 SAR 6th HARVARD (#3, 10-1) made his turf debut off the Atras claim last time and failed to hold a stretch lead at this level; might have raced a bit too close to a fast pace that day, which left him vulnerable to the closers late; draws inside again; willing to give him another chance. -Mike Beer | Bet this race with DRF Bets 4:13 GP 7th GAYLES EVENING (#7, 5-1) returns to sprinting and that is for the best. This mare draws outside main pace foes and that helps her trip. She has hit the exacta going this distance in 9 of 15 starts. She is 2 for 4 on the synth. We like how this LosAl shipper got good play when arriving here which is unusual. Wire please. -Scott Ehlers | Bet this race with DRF Bets 4:51 MTH 7th CASSATION (#5, 8-1) was off the board the last time he tried two turns but he had some early trouble there and he was unable to recover, and he also had traffic problems in his latest; this is a difficult race to plot in terms of pace but there doesn't appear to be an abundance of speed signed on, and he may be able to take advantage of a forward trip. -Kenny Peck | Bet this race with DRF Bets 5:18 GP 9th DIALITHIC (#3, 10-1) ran great on this sod only two and three back. She was stuck in the 10 hole in her most recent and that had to hurt plus she was facing first time winners. It is difficult for runners at this level to string good races together otherwise they wouldn't be at this level. The filly has speed to help her trip and draws fine. -Scott Ehlers | Bet this race with DRF Bets 6:19 SAR 10th POSSE ROCKS (#5, 12-1) is by excellent all-around sire Bustin Stones (17% with first time starters) and from the female family of the fast sprinter Platinum Perfect, a multiple stakes winner with a 101 Beyer top; Levine has his firsters ready to go. -Mike Beer | Bet this race with DRF Bets 8:02 DMR 3rd Maiden 2yos sprint five furlongs on turf; first-time starter SCIPIO (#6, 5-1) has worked as if he is ready to fire. Juvenile debut progeny of Caravaggio won at a 14 percent clip; trainer Richard Baltas won with 4 of his last 10 first-time starters in Del Mar summer turf sprints (2020-2021 meets). -Brad Free | Bet this race with DRF Bets 10:06 DMR 7th SWEET DELTA DAWN (#1, 6-1) was not disgraced in her U.S. debut in a similar turf mile for maiden fillies and mares; she finished fifth while running better than the line looks. She pressed the pace but got swallowed in a race dominated by closers. The "shape" of the race was against her. Now she makes her second stateside start against a modest field, and won't need much improvement to handle this bunch. -Brad Free | Bet this race with DRF Bets
