Domestic Product, runner-up in the Grade 3 Holy Bull on Feb. 3 at Gulfstream, and No More Time, winner of the Sam F. Davis on Feb. 10 at Tampa Bay Downs, top what could be a nine-horse field for Saturday’s Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby. The purse of the race is $350,000 for non-Florida-breds. The race offers 105 qualifying points to its top five finishers (50-25-15-10-5) toward the May 4 Kentucky Derby. Domestic Product, trained by Chad Brown, is likely to go favored off his runner-up finish behind Hades in the Holy Bull. He scored a maiden victory going 1 1/8 miles at Aqueduct last October. In between, he finished seventh behind Dornoch and Sierra Leone in the Grade 2 Remsen. Those two horses have both won graded stakes in their 3-year-old debuts. :: KENTUCKY DERBY 2024: Derby Watch, point standings, prep schedule, news, and more Brown said Sunday he also plans to run Good Money, a son of Good Magic who won a seven-furlong maiden race at Tampa in his lone start Jan. 26. No More Time is coming out of a front-running victory in the Grade 3 Sam Davis, giving him the advantage of having a race over the track. Trainer Jose D’Angelo said Javier Castellano will pick up the mount on No More Time for the Tampa Bay Derby. Heartened, a recent 4 1/2-length maiden winner going a mile and 70 yards at Tampa, is expected to be trainer Todd Pletcher’s lone representative in the Tampa Bay Derby. Pletcher has won the race six times, most recently with Tapit Trice last year. Drip, a debut winner sprinting on Feb. 17 at Fair Grounds, is targeting the Tampa Bay Derby. Also expected to run are Everdoit – who would be the lone Florida-bred in the field – Tour Guide, and Give Me Liberty, the latter two both owned by Ken Ramsey. Trainer Christophe Clement said Sunday he is contemplating supplementing Otello into the field. Otello won the Mucho Macho Man Stakes but finished sixth in the Holy Bull. ◗ Entries for the Tampa Bay Derby and the other five stakes on the card are to be drawn Wednesday. The Grade 2 Hillsborough Stakes, for fillies and mares at 1 1/8 miles on turf, is shaping up to be an interesting race. Among those expected to run are Grade 1 winners Marketsegmentation and Aspen Grove, as well as Elusive Princess, who was impressive winning last year’s Grade 3 Saratoga Oaks, and Star Fortress, who also was impressive winning the Grade 3 Cardinal at Churchill Downs. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
