The name is easily recognizable as the author of decades of reports on leading races on the front pages of this publication. Now, Privman is in the PP’s. A colt by Justify, Privman, named in honor of retired Daily Racing Form national correspondent Jay Privman, will debut in a five-furlong maiden race at Los Alamitos on Saturday. Privman drew the outside post in a field of eight first-time starters, and is the morning-line favorite at 2-1. Privman was purchased for $625,000 at the Keeneland 2023 yearling sale last September and races for a large partnership that includes SF Racing, Starlight Racing, Madaket Stables, and others. Trained by Bob Baffert, Privman has displayed quick workouts at Santa Anita in recent weeks, including half-mile works from the gate in 47.80 seconds on June 1 and 47.20 on June 7. Asked about the recent works, Baffert responded in a text message on Friday stating that Privman “is much faster than his namesake.” Privman has some experience on the Los Alamitos track. He was based with Baffert’s stable there in the spring, long enough for four workouts, before being moved to the Santa Anita stable in mid-May. :: Subscribe to the DRF Post Time Email Newsletter: Get the news you need to play today's races!  The maiden race is the debut of Mischief River, a $500,000 purchase at the Ocala Breeders’ Sale of 2-year-olds in training in April and the first Thoroughbred starter in a year for Los Alamitos-based Quarter Horse trainer Jimmy Glenn Jr. Mischief River, by Into Mischief, has worked quickly at Los Alamitos in recent weeks. The colt is a full brother to Into Chocolate, the winner of the Grade 3 Chillingworth Stakes for fillies and mares at 6 1/2 furlongs at Santa Anita in 2020. “He’s been training as good as you can get one to train,” Glenn said. “He showed he’s got a lot of potential and talent. We look forward to him running a good race.” Chris Galpin, racing as Bow River Ranch, and Glenn own Mischief River. “Most of his works have been with an older horse,” Glenn said. “We’ve placed him behind and let him run.” Trainer Todd Fincher starts Show of Force, a colt by Omaha Beach whose juvenile debut runners have been outstanding since the first crop arrived on the track in 2023. Show of Force worked a half-mile in 46.20 seconds at San Luis Rey Downs on June 20. “He’s ready to run,” Fincher said. “He really wants to go long.” :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
