Taking advantage of a pace battle, Logan Park proved best in the $250,000 Dayton Trotting Derby on Saturday evening at Hollywood Dayton Raceway. Chapercraz was fastest off the gate with Yannick Gingras in the bike and he was to feel intense pressure from fellow leaver Southwind Tyrion and driver Ake Svanstedt just past the 27 1/5 opening quarter marker. Meanwhile, as the leaders hooked up, Logan Park and Dexter Dunn was sitting pretty in the pocket by the half in 55 4/5. Approaching three-quarters in 1:24 3/5, Southwind Tyrion decided to call it a night as Hillexotic launched a three-wide move from the back and Logan Park edged off the pylons. Logan Park took charge in the stretch and easily held Hillexotic at bay in a 1:52 3/5 winning effort as the 7-5 favorite. Asteroid finished third but was disqualified for causing interference and placed seventh, moving It’s Academic up from fourth to third. For Logan Park it was his ninth win in 14 starts this year and the 33rd victory of his career. The 6-year-old son of Archangel has now earned $430,692 on the year for trainer Robert Fellow and owners Outofthepark Stable, Reg Higgs and Arpad Szabo.
