Jiggy Jog took a break from facing male competition to tackle fellow older mare trotters in the $250,000 Dayton Oaks Derby on Saturday at Hollywood Dayton Raceway but found no peers as she dominated as the 1-9 public choice. In a busy opening quarter with many leavers, Call Me Goo gave way to M M’s Dream by the opening quarter in 27 1/5 and she yielded to Jiggy Jog ahead of the three-eighths marker. They sat in that alignment past the half in 55 1/5 when Pioneer As began a failed first-over effort that produced no results. As three-quarters approached in 1:23 3/5, Jiggy Jog and driver Dexter Dunn powered away from their competition and crossed the wire as much the best in 1:52 1/5. Call Me Goo found room to the inside as M M’s Dream drifted a bit and out-kicked that one for the place. Tactical Mounds rallied widest for fourth. For Jiggy Jog, the victory was her sixth in as many starts on the year. The 5-year-old daughter of Walner has earned $934,188 for trainer Ake Svanstedt, who co-owns with Steve Stewart, John Lengacher and Hickory Hollow Stables. According to previous reports, Jiggy Jog, who has won the Dayton Oaks Derby in consecutive years, is expected to start next in the Breeders Crown eliminations or final at The Meadowlands in late October.
