Multiple Grade 1 winner Cyberknife will stand at Spendthrift Farm upon the conclusion of his racing career, the farm announced on Sunday afternoon. Cyberknife is from the red-hot first crop of Horse of the Year Gun Runner, and becomes the first prominent son of the stallion with a stud deal formally announced. Cyberknife races for the Gold Square LLC of Al Gold, which purchased him for $400,000 at the 2020 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky yearling showcase, with racing manager Joe Hardoon acting as agent. The colt won this year’s Grade 1 Arkansas Derby before finishing 18th in the Kentucky Derby. He returned to win the Grade 3 Matt Winn Stakes at Churchill Downs, and then added the Grade 1 Haskell on July 23 at Monmouth, besting another son of Gun Runner, Taiba. “We are grateful to Al Gold and his team for allowing us to acquire the stallion rights to such an exciting horse as Cyberknife,” Ned Toffey, Spendthrift’s general manager, said in a release. “Gun Runner has certainly asserted himself as a serious sire with his first crop, and Cyberknife is his only multiple Grade 1-winning son, having impressively won two of America’s biggest million-dollar Grade 1s for 3-year-olds – the Arkansas Derby and Haskell. Cyberknife is a very good-looking, very athletic colt, and I know their team believes that he is only getting better. He will be a wonderful addition to our roster when his racing career is over. In the meantime, we very much look forward to seeing what Cyberknife can accomplish on the track.” Cyberknife’s Haskell victory made him the first 3-year-old male this season to win multiple Grade 1 events. He is now targeting the Grade 1 Travers Stakes on Aug. 27 at Saratoga, where he is expected to meet the other active leaders of this sophomore class. :: DRF Bets members get FREE DRF Past Performances - Formulator or Classic.
