GP RACE 10: R HARPER ROSE won her first three starts with ease before a front-running second on the stretch-out to 1 1/16 miles in the final leg of the Florida Sire Stakes series for fillies. Trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. has favorable numbers with turnbacks, and this one has been working right along. SCALABLE dusted maidens here a month ago in her first outing since ending up fifth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. Probable Canadian champion 2-year-old filly WITWATERSRAND has done all of her damage on Tapeta at Woodbine but is bred for the dirt. FIONA’S MAGIC could take some catching if the track is favoring speed. (4) SA RACE 4: BELLABEL was among the top 3-year-old filly grass runners in North America in 2022 before missing all of 2023. Trainer Phil D’Amato has a 20 percent strike rate with long-term layoff runners, and this one has excelled off the bench in the past. In a field devoid of speed, she could wire the field under Flavien Prat, who won a Santa Anita stakes on her two years ago. The other contenders are CLOSING REMARKS, MOUFFY, and NADETTE. His only poor showing came in the tough Breeders’ Cup Juvenile on the dirt, and 1 1/16 miles on turf might be his preferred trip. AGATE ROAD looks next best in his second start off the bench. A soft pace hindered his chances when a chalky second to the leading longshot Tocayo when returning to action in the Dania Beach Stakes. (2) SA RACE 5: NYSOS is arguably the best 3-year-old on the continent not named Fierceness. He won a pair of sprints last fall with ease while earning Beyer Speed Figures in the upper 90s. The son of classic winner Nyquist and a dam by the outstanding broodmare sire Bernardini is bred to go long, and trainer Bob Baffert has excellent numbers with stretch-outs. GP RACE 12: Reigning champion male 2-year-old FIERCENESS is hard to go past in his first race since a blowout score in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, for which he got a 105 Beyer while manhandling impressive next-out winner Muth. The Repole Stable homebred has worked brilliantly at Palm Beach Downs and shouldn’t need one.
