The Indiana Gaming Commission has selected a proposal from Churchill Downs Inc. for a casino near Terre Haute after rejecting a settlement offer from the previous holder of the license. The Churchill proposal for a casino and hotel was selected over three other applicants. On Monday, the commission had voted down a settlement offer that would have allowed the previous license holder, Lucy Luck, which is headed by a Terre Haute businessman, to retain a license for a proposed casino. The commission had earlier voted not to renew the license, which was first awarded in 2019. :: To stay up to date, follow us on: Facebook | Instagram | Twitter The company behind Lucy Luck has appealed the decision to take away the license, and that process is expected to complicate construction schedules. A release from Churchill said that the license will be “officially” awarded “upon the final affirmation of the pending nonrenewal of the prior license holder.” The Churchill proposal calls for a total of 400,000 square feet for the casino and hotel. The casino will operate 1,000 slot machines, 50 table games, and a sportsbook.
