The Chosen Vron, winner of his last eight starts since September including the Grade 1 Bing Crosby Stakes at Del Mar July 29, will not race again until the Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Santa Anita on Nov. 4, trainer and co-owner Eric Kruljac said Friday. After the Bing Crosby Stakes, Kruljac mentioned the possibility of starting The Chosen Vron in the Grade 2 Santa Anita Sprint Championship at six furlongs Sept. 30, but said on Friday that is no longer the plan. “We’ll plan on going in fresh for the Breeders’ Cup,” he said. “We’ve made that decision.” A winner of 13 of 17 starts, The Chosen Vron will have 14 weeks between the Bing Crosby and the BC Sprint. Both races are at six furlongs. “He really fires his best races when he’s fresh,” Kruljac said. “His best track is Santa Anita.” Kruljac co-owns The Chosen Vron with John Sondereker, Robert Fetkin, and Richard Thornburgh. The Chosen Vron was not nominated to the Breeders’ Cup program as a weanling and must be supplemented for $100,000, a fee that makes the 5-year-old gelding eligible to the program for the remainder of his career. The Chosen Vron earned a fees-paid berth to the BC Sprint with the win in the Bing Crosby, avoiding pre-entry and entry fees. He still must be made eligible to the Breeders’ Cup program when pre-entries are due in late October. The Chosen Vron, who is currently jogging on a daily basis according to Kruljac, had his Grade 1 debut in the Bing Crosby. The seven previous victories of the winning streak were against California-breds. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
