DEL MAR, Calif. – There is no hearsay surrounding Chismosa. She is leaving Del Mar this summer as the undisputed top California-bred 2-year-old filly. Named for the Spanish word for gossip, Chismosa remained unbeaten after three starts with her second career stakes win in Monday’s $126,000 Generous Portion Stakes for statebred fillies. Ridden by Edgar Payeras, Chismosa stalked the pace for the opening quarter-mile, took a commanding lead in early stretch, and held off a run from 2-1 Uncontrollable to win the six-furlong race by 1 3/4 lengths in 1:11.18. She earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 68. Chismosa paid $6 as the slight favorite. The final margin was deceptive, Payeras said. Chismosa had a six-length lead with a furlong remaining, which may have been too much of an advantage for the relatively inexperienced filly. “She doesn’t want to go alone,” Payeras said. “She likes the company, even in workouts.” :: DRF's Del Mar headquarters – Stakes schedule, previews, recaps, past performances, and more Uncontrollable, supplemented to the race for $25,000 on Friday, finished seven lengths clear of 9-1 Fun Money, who was followed by Smiling Lady, Yo Yo Mama, Big Hopes, Electric Lettuce, and E Z Pharis. The supplemental fee makes Uncontrollable eligible for all stakes for California-breds for the remainder of her career. Uncontrollable closed from last of eight to be running well at the finish. The Generous Portion was her second start, preceded by a win in a maiden special weight race on July 22. “It seems it takes her a little while to get going,” trainer Michael McCarthy said. “She’s a stretch-running sprinter or two turns.” :: Visit the Del Mar Handicapping Store for Past Performances, Clocker Reports, Picks, Betting Strategies and more. Chismosa ran in the longest race of her career in the Generous Portion. Trained by Rafael DeLeon for owner and breeder Jaime Renella, Chismosa won her debut in a maiden special weight race for statebred fillies at five furlongs on July 22 and her stakes debut in the CTBA Stakes at 5 1/2 furlongs on Aug. 7. Chismosa has earned $190,500 in three races. The series of stakes for statebred fillies continues with the $175,000 Golden State Juvenile Fillies at seven furlongs on Oct. 29 at Santa Anita. Considering the way Chismosa finished the Generous Portion, a longer distance could be difficult. Payeras, for one, thinks Chismosa can handle a slightly longer trip, as long as he conserves some of her speed. “That will be interesting,” he said. “I think she can do it if she doesn’t go too early.”
