DEL MAR, Calif. – Jockeys Abel Cedillo and Declan Cannon both have been suspended by Del Mar’s stewards for three days, beginning Thursday, for separate incidents in the Grade 2 Eddie Read Stakes July 31. Cedillo rode the race winner, Master Piece, who had to survive a lengthy inquiry initiated by an objection lodged by trainer Phil D’Amato, who sent out four runners, including the second- and third-place finishers, Hong Kong Harry and Cathkin Peak. After viewing videotape of the opening yards of the race, stewards ruled that Master Piece, who came over from his outside draw, did not do enough to warrant a disqualification, but they subsequently cited Cedillo for “crossing over without sufficient clearance shortly after the start and causing interference,” according to the ruling suspending Cedillo. :: DRF's Del Mar headquarters – Stakes schedule, previews, recaps, past performances, and more Cannon in the same race was cited for “altering course in the backstretch without sufficient clearance and causing interference” while aboard Tango Tango Tango, who was third at that point in the race but faded to finish seventh in the 10-horse field. Through the first three weeks of the meet, Cedillo is tied for sixth in the jockeys’ standings with five wins from 68 mounts. Cannon is 1 for 17. :: Visit the Del Mar Handicapping Store for Past Performances, Clocker Reports, Picks, Betting Strategies and more.
