The California Horse Racing Board is scheduled to meet in Del Mar on Thursday with proposed racing dates for 2025 as a primary issue on the agenda. While changes are not expected for the Southern California Thoroughbred circuit, documents recently sent to the racing board provide a clearer picture of a Thoroughbred racing schedule at Pleasanton in Northern California that will replace Golden Gate Fields in Albany. Golden Gate Fields closed in June. Golden State Racing, a consortium of owners, breeders, and trainers working with the California Authority of Racing Fairs, have been granted racing dates for an autumn meeting later this year from late October to mid-December. In 2025, two meetings are scheduled for Pleasanton, including a 65-day winter-spring meeting from Dec. 26 of this year through June 8. The calendar of racing dates for that season consists of a mix of two- and three-day racing weeks, with a focus on weekends during the winter and Fridays added on most weeks from April to the conclusion of the season. After the five-stop fair circuit during the summer and fall, which includes the Alameda County Fair in Pleasanton and brief seasons in Sacramento, Santa Rosa, Ferndale, and Fresno, a 26-day autumn meeting is scheduled at Pleasanton from mid-October to mid-December next year. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
