The California Horse Racing Board has canceled its monthly meeting scheduled for March 20 in Sacramento. Had the meeting been held, it would have more than likely been a brief session. According to an agenda published on the CHRB’s website earlier this month, the only subject for action was a request from the Humboldt County Fair in Ferndale to operate a brief race meeting in late August and early September. The other items on the agenda were monthly reports from two leading executives and approval of the minutes of the February meeting, which also had a sparse agenda and lasted less than an hour. The racing board is scheduled to meet in Sacramento on April 17 when the Humboldt request is expected to be heard. Humboldt is likely to be the only fair to request racing dates this year. :: Santa Anita Clocker Reports are available every race day. Access now. Later this month, training is scheduled to cease on the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton. A winter-spring meeting there was canceled in December after an autumn meeting failed to generate sufficient handle. Many stables based at Pleasanton have relocated to Southern California or Emerald Downs in Washington state. Summer fair meetings at Pleasanton, Sacramento, and Santa Rosa and a fall meeting in Fresno are not expected this year, leaving the bulk of Thoroughbred racing in the state in Southern California at Del Mar, Los Alamitos, and Santa Anita. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
