OZONE PARK, N.Y. – When Raging Sea won Saturday’s Grade 3, $200,000 Comely Stakes at Aqueduct, it was the 22nd graded stakes win of 2023 on the New York Racing Association circuit for trainer Chad Brown. Brown is looking to add to that total when he likely sends out multiple runners here on Saturday in the final four graded events of the year on the NYRA calendar. Though entries aren’t due until Wednesday, Brown planned to run the trio of Accretive, Cascais, and Dr Ardito in the Grade 2, $500,000 Cigar Mile Handicap; Domestic Product and Sierra Leone in the Grade 2, $250,000 Remsen; Catherine Wheel and Dolomite in the Grade 2, $250,000 Demoiselle; and Gerrymander and possibly Good Sam in the Grade 3, $200,000 Go for Wand. Dr Ardito and Accretive finished second and third behind potential Cigar Mile favorite Everso Mischievous in the Grade 2 Forty Niner on Oct. 28. Cascais is coming out of a runner-up finish in a first-level allowance on Oct. 21. :: Bet with the Best! Get FREE All-Access PPs and Weekly Cashback when you wager on DRF Bets. Of the trio, Cascais may be the most ambitiously placed, though his second-place finish to Signator was flattered when that horse came back to win another allowance. Brown said the next allowance for which Cascais was eligible “was back too soon for this horse. I didn’t want to do that. The timing [of the Cigar] was better and we thought he really needed that last one. I think he’s going to move forward.” Cascais is the assigned low weight at 114 pounds, getting nine pounds from assigned highweight Senor Buscador (123), who is going to run. Prior to his third-place finish in the Forty Niner, Accretive was a solid second to Cody’s Wish in the Grade 2 Vosburgh at seven furlongs. That followed two allowance wins to begin his 4-year-old campaign. Dr Ardito, a multiple New York-bred stakes winner, ran arguably his best career race in the Forty Niner, his best showing in an open company stakes. Everso Mischievous, is the lone 3-year-old expected for the Cigar Mile. He’ll bring a three-race win streak into the race for trainer Brad Cox. Others expected for the Cigar include Hoist the Gold, Three Technique, Coastal Mission, Pipeline, Castle Chaos, and Winit. Ny Traffic was possible. In the Remsen, Domestic Product, coming off a maiden win going 1 1/8 miles, and Sierra Leone, who overcame traffic to win a one-mile race on debut, give Brown a solid 1-2 punch. Others expected for that race include Billal, Copper Tax, Dornoch, Drum Roll Please, Le Dom Bro, Moonlight, Private Desire, and Where’s Chris. Catherine Wheel, a winner of a maiden race in her third start, and Dolomite, a decisive winner in her second start, also give Brown a strong hand in a field that is expected to attract Life Talk, fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. Most of All, Cozzee Rags, Ringy Dingy, Shimmering Allure, and Vino Rouge are also likely for the Demoiselle. Gerrymander comes into the Go for Wand off a 25-length win over Sunset Louise in the match race that was the off-the-turf Noble Damsel Stakes. Her stablemate Good Sam is coming off a solid allowance win at Aqueduct on Oct. 4. Others pointing to the Go for Wand are last year’s winner, Dr B, as well as Tizzy in the Sky, Venti Valentine, and possibly Know It All Audrey. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
