DEL MAR, Calif. – New York-based trainer Chad Brown has won five of the last six runnings of the Grade 1 Matriarch Stakes for fillies and mares at Del Mar’s autumn meeting and plans to have four runners in the $300,000 race at a mile on turf Sunday. Brown said over the weekend that Beaute Cachee, Fluffy Socks, Surge Capacity, and Whitebeam will be entered in the Matriarch. Beaute Cachee and Fluffy Socks were second and third in the Athenia Stakes at the Belmont at Aqueduct meeting on Oct. 27. The 3-year-old Surge Capacity won the Grade 3 Valley View Stakes at a mile on turf at Keeneland on Oct. 27, while Whitebeam is best known for winning the Grade 1 Diana Stakes at Saratoga in July. In her only subsequent start, Whitebeam finished fourth of eight in the Grade 1 First Lady Stakes at a mile on turf at Keeneland on Oct. 7. The Brown-trained fillies will race against a local group that will include Closing Remarks, a four-time graded stakes winner this year; and Ruby Nell, an improving 3-year-old filly who won the Grade 3 Autumn Miss Stakes at a mile on turf at Santa Anita on Nov. 5. :: Bet with the Best!
