LOUISVILLE, Ky.-  After several days of deliberation on the part of trainer Nick Zito, Jackson Bend was entered Monday morning in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint rather than in the Dirt Mile, which was his first preference when pre-entered five days earlier. Zito said last week that Jackson Bend was pre-entered in both races to keep options open for another few days, and after weighing those options he finally opted for the six-furlong Sprint. Jackson Bend, winner of the seven furlong Forego and runner-up to Uncle Mo in the one mile Kelso, has not raced at six furlongs since winning Calder’s Dr. Fager during the summer of his 2-year-old campaign. Zito said his decision to start Jackson Bend in the Sprint was based on a  combination of reasons including pace, the depth of the Dirt Mile field, and the possibility that a victory in the Sprint could earn Jackson Bend an Eclipse Award. The Dirt Mile also lost a second starter prior to entry time when trainer Todd Pletcher said Rule would not run due to a bruised left hind foot.   - additional reporting by David Grening   Sprint, Post Time: 2:37 ET Saturday Purse: $1,500,000; 6 furlongs; gr.
