LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Awesome Strong, who swept the three-race Florida Sire Series as part of a 4-for-4 campaign, will miss the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile on Nov. 4 due to “a minor shin problem,” trainer Jorge Delgado said Friday. Delgado said that Awesome Strong, who has had two works at Keeneland, will soon be shipped to a farm in Ocala, Fla., and get 60 days off. “We’re doing what’s best for him,” Delgado said Friday morning. “We want him to have a 3-year-old career, a 4-year-old career. We have high expectations for him.” :: BREEDERS’ CUP 2022: See DRF’s special section with top contenders, odds, comments, news, and more for each division Delgado will still have a Breeders’ Cup starter in Willy Boi, who is targeting the BC Sprint on Nov. 5. Awesome Strong would have been a longshot in a Juvenile field that includes two-time Grade 1 winners Cave Rock and Forte. Awesome Strong, a son of Awesome Slew, was one of 12 horses pre-entered for the Juvenile. Hurricane J, another pre-entrant, is entered in Saturday’s $200,000 Bowman Mill Stakes at Keeneland. Tyler’s Tribe is pre-entered in the Juvenile Turf Sprint and is expected to run there. Wound Up is pre-entered in the Juvenile Turf Sprint, but is highly unlikely to crack that field being last of 26 on the preference list. Congruent is pre-entered in the Juvenile Turf and would need three defections to get into that field. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
