Although she did win last year’s listed All Along Stakes at Pimlico in gate-to-wire fashion when conditioned by Brittany Russell, Full Count Felicia had shown to be a versatile sort, as evidenced by her rallying victory in Gulfstream’s Grade 3 Suwannee River Stakes in December. That doesn’t seem to be the case any longer as Full Count Felicia, now with trainer Kevin Attard at Woodbine, has utilized run-and-gun tactics that led to dominating victories in the Grade 2 Canadian on Aug. 10 and the Grade 1 E.P. Taylor on Sept. 14. Full Count Felicia is now a speed horse. “The first time I ran her” – a fourth-place finish in the Grade 2 Nassau on June 29 – “I thought she got away early on [jockey Rafael Hernandez],” Attard said. “It was a taxing second quarter. We’ve worked hard with her in the morning to get her to settle, but she’s a very light-mouthed filly and likes to do things her way. The jockey has to be cognizant of that and keep her happy and not fight good energy by restraining her.” :: BREEDERS’ CUP FILLY AND MARE TURF: See DRF’s special section with top contenders, odds, comments, news, and more Irad Ortiz Jr., who piloted Full Count Felicia in the Suwannee River, will regain the mount for the Breeders’ Cup, per Chad Summers, who trains and does bloodstock work for Full Count Felicia’s owner, Al Gold’s Gold Square LLC. Summers was at Woodbine on Sunday for Full Count Felicia’s bullet five-eighths breeze in 58.80 seconds over the Tapeta surface. “Worked fantastic, all systems go,” Summers texted. Even before that workout, Full Count Felicia impressed Attard. She opened a 14-length lead on the backstretch of the 1 1/4-mile E.P. Taylor and still had enough to last by 3 1/2 lengths. For that effort, Full Count Felicia received a 101 Beyer Speed Figure. :: ON SALE NOW: DRF Breeders' Cup Packages! Taylor by the other horses and jockeys. She showed that she’s a horse to be reckoned with. Obviously, the slower she goes early, the more dangerous she’ll be.” Full Count Felicia will stretch out to 1 3/8 miles for the first time in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf. “The farther you stretch her out and the fact that she can be aggressive on the front end concerns you in that sense,” Attard admitted. “I think it all depends on how the race unfolds.” ◗ Soprano, a Group 3 winner in France over the summer, appears headed to the Filly and Mare Turf after finishing second in Keeneland’s Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup. The 3-year-old filly has never raced beyond 1 1/8 miles. ◗ Cinderella’s Dream, perfect from two starts in North America this year for Godolphin and trainer Charlie Appleby, looks on target after a half-mile turf breeze Tuesday morning at Keeneland. Scratched the morning of the E.P. Taylor, Cinderella’s Dream hasn’t started since taking the Grade 2 Saratoga Oaks on Aug. 2. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
