LEXINGTON, Ky. – Cody’s Wish, who won the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile by a head on Saturday at Keeneland, will remain in training for a 5-year-old campaign, a representative of the horse’s owner and breeder, Godolphin, said. “He came out of the Breeders’ Cup very well,” said Michael Banahan, Godolphin’s director of bloodstock for the U.S. “He’s sound, healthy, and we’re extremely excited about seeing him race next year.” A son of Curlin out of the Grade 1 stakes-winning Tapit mare Dance Card, Cody’s Wish did not have his first start until the summer of his 3-year-old season and remains lightly raced. With the Dirt Mile win, Cody’s Wish ran his record to seven wins in 11 starts, with earnings of $1.33 million. Banahan said that Cody’s Wish will get “a bit of a breather” and then be campaigned with the intent of making a Breeders’ Cup race next year, when the event will be held at Santa Anita in Southern California. The Dirt Mile was the second Grade 1 win of the year for Cody’s Wish, who may contend for the champion sprinter title this year. The horse came into the Breeders’ Cup having won six of his last seven starts, with five of those starts coming at a mile and one, the Grade 1 Forego, at seven furlongs. :: BREEDERS’ CUP 2022: See DRF’s special section with top contenders, odds, comments, news, and more for each division Following the Dirt Mile win, Bill Mott, the trainer of Cody’s Wish, seemed to lobby for an additional year. “He’s a horse that is probably just coming into his own these last two [seasons],” Mott said. “He's risen into stakes company and to the Grade I level, and he'd be a horse that, for me as a trainer, would be an interesting horse to take to a race like the Met Mile next year.” :: DRF Bets members get FREE DRF Past Performances - Formulator or Classic.
