The Nov. 2 Breeders’ Cup Classic will have a post time of 5:41 p.m. Eastern, or 2:41 local time at the event’s host track, Del Mar in Southern California, and will be followed by four Breeders’ Cup races for the first time in its history, the organization announced on Thursday. While the post time for the Classic is consistent with the post time for Breeders’ Cup events held at tracks in the Eastern time zone, the post time of the race this year will be one hour earlier than the post time for the Classic last year at Santa Anita, also in Southern California. In addition, the placement of the Classic in the middle of the Saturday slate of nine Breeders’ Cup races is a first for the event. Last year, two Breeders’ Cup races were run after the Classic. The scheduling of four races after the Classic is an acknowledgement of the new reality in Saturday sports broadcasting. Major networks, including Breeders’ Cup’s broadcast partner, NBC, have made major financial commitments to college football, and the Classic’s late-afternoon post time guarantees a broadcast window on NBC’s flagship station. This year’s Classic will anchor a 2 1/2-hour live broadcast on NBC, starting at 3:30 p.m. Eastern and concluding at 6 p.m. Eastern. Included in the NBC broadcast window, in race order, will be coverage of the Turf Sprint, Distaff, and Turf, followed by the Classic. The first Breeders’ Cup race of the Saturday card, the Dirt Mile, will be shown live on USA Network. :: ON SALE NOW: DRF Breeders' Cup Packages! This year, four races – the Filly and Mare Turf, the Filly and Mare Sprint, the Mile, and the Sprint – will follow the Classic, with the card wrapping up around 8:30 p.m. Eastern, or 5:30 p.m. local time. Unlike last year, the four races held after the Classic will be broadcast live on USA, which is owned by NBC. Last year, the two-post Classic races were only available on Peacock, NBC’s pay-streaming service (though the simulcast broadcast was also available to ADW account-holders and on Breeders’ Cup’s website). The 12-race Saturday card will begin with three listed stakes, with the first race scheduled to go to post at 1:05 p.m. Eastern, or 10:05 a.m. local time. As usual, the five Breeders’ Cup races restricted to 2-year-olds will form the Friday Breeders’ Cup slate. The first Breeders’ Cup race, the Juvenile Turf Sprint, will have a 5:45 p.m. Eastern post time, or 2:45 local time, followed by the Juvenile Fillies (6:25 Eastern); Juvenile Fillies Turf (7:05 Eastern); Juvenile (7:45 Eastern); and Juvenile Turf (8:25 Eastern). Broadcast coverage of the Friday races will be provided by USA Network and FanDuelTV (formerly known as TVG). The first race of the Friday card will have a post time of 2:35 p.m. Eastern, or 11:35 a.m. local time. Five listed stakes will precede the five-race Breeders’ Cup slate. The Breeders’ Cup simulcast show, which caters to handicappers, will be broadcast throughout both days of racing on FanDuel TV, account-wagering platforms, and the Breeders’ Cup website and app. However, live coverage of the Classic will be blacked out on the services and available only on NBC and Peacock. Peacock will also carry all of the live broadcasts on both days. Both the Friday and Saturday slates will feature rolling daily doubles and pick threes throughout the cards. The lone pick six on the Saturday card will start with the Breeders’ Cup Turf, running through the Classic, the Filly and Mare Turf, the Filly and Mare Sprint, the Mile, and the Sprint. A late pick five will begin with the Classic. The pick six will have a $1 minimum and the pick five will have a 50-cent minimum, throughout the weekend. The Saturday card will also feature a pick five starting with the first Breeders’ Cup race, the Dirt Mile, and running through the Turf Sprint, the Distaff, the Turf, and the Classic. Another pick five will start with the first race on the Saturday card. Breeders’ Cup will once again offer two special pick fours on the Saturday card, with one linking all of the Saturday dirt races but the Dirt Mile and the other linking all of the Saturday turf races. Five other pick fours will also be offered on the Saturday card. :: BREEDERS’ CUP CLASSIC: See DRF’s special section with top contenders, odds, comments, news, and more The Friday card will offer two pick fives, one starting with race 1 and the other starting with the first Breeders’ Cup race. The pick six will start with race 5, the Golden State Juvenile Stakes, and link all the Friday Breeders’ Cup races. The Friday card will also have a special pick three linking the three turf races within the Breeders’ Cup slate. Any carryover in the Friday pick six will carry over to the pick six on Saturday. A carryover in the late pick five on Friday or early pick five on Saturday will carry over to the late pick five on Saturday. Both the Saturday pick six and the late pick five on Saturday will have mandatory payouts, as will the middle pick five on Saturday. Breeders’ Cup will also link three individual races on the Friday card to three races on the Saturday card in special daily doubles, though the selection of the Saturday races has not yet been determined. A special daily double on the Saturday card will link the Distaff and the Classic. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
