Brad Free Juvenile Turf Sprint LOVE REIGNS won the fastest-ever turf sprint by a Keeneland 2-year-old this spring, a 1:02.33 maiden scorcher. Her next-out fourth at Ascot was okay, considering she was sick between starts. She returned to form last out with a sharp Saratoga stakes win. Trainer Wesley Ward’s original plan was train into the BC, so the filly’s Oct. 9 scratch is a non-factor. Love Reigns, proven at Keeneland, can win if she maintains position from her inside draw. THE PLATINUM QUEEN “drops in class” into the Breeders’ Cup. Weird. She amazingly defeated 18 older rivals in a Group 1 in France, now runs in an age-restricted race for 2-year-olds. The challenge for speedy The Platinum Queen is negotiating the turn without being parked wide from her outside post. Her overseas starts were on straightaways. SPEED BOAT BEACH dazzled in his debut on dirt; his stakes win on turf was less impressive, but he is fast. Group 3-winning European MISCHIEF MAGIC will rally. All four editions of the Juvenile Turf Sprint (2018-21) were won by pacesetters. :: Bet the Breeders' Cup with a $200 First Deposit Match and FREE Formulator PPs. Join DRF Bets. Juvenile Fillies CHOCOLATE GELATO (Best Bet) scored a sharp win in the Grade 1 Frizette, a race that has produced more Juvenile Fillies winners (14) than any prep. Inside and behind rivals, she split traffic on the turn, rallied wide, and inched clear over the inside-trip pacesetter. That was on a sloppy track, her maiden win on fast earned the season’s second-highest Beyer by a 2-year-old dirt filly. Todd Pletcher is due to win the Juvenile Fillies with his 15th starter. SABRA TUFF, whose odds will be in the stratosphere, warrants consideration. She has been plugging away against good company all year; her recent fifth in a Grade 1 was possibly better than it looks. She wast early, made a middle move into and through far turn, and then flattened out in a race mostly dominated by speed. Late-runner Sabra Tuff can outrun her price. YOU’RE MY GIRL held second in the highly rated Frizette; she is speed. AND TELL ME NOLIES overcame imperfect trips to win two graded stakes with low figs. She seems to have a touch of class. Juvenile Fillies Turf Tough outside draw, but 2-for-2 European MIDNIGHT MILE can upset a deep Juvenile Fillies Turf based on an impressive comeback. She was blocked late, angled out, split foes, and got up in a Group 3 won two years ago by subsequent Group 1 winner Saffron Beach. Midnight Mile has distance potential in her pedigree, seasoning is not an issue. Eight of the 14 Juvenile Fillies Turf winners were making only their third start. Tab for an upset. MEDITATE is arguably the class of the field. She is a Group 1 runner-up twice in Europe after winning her first four starts, including three group races. Not sure if the longer distance helps, but third preference nonetheless. PLEASANT PASSAGE is 2 for 2 and won the Grade 2 Miss Grillo, a race that has produced more Juvenile Fillies Turf winners (five) than any prep. Juvenile - DRF Race of the Day: Get free Formulator PPs for the BC Juvenile  California front-runner CAVE ROCK, 3 for 3, can be long gone at a short price based on his 1:43.05 Grade 1 dazzler last out in his first route. The speed of the field, Cave Rock controls his destiny and would be the fourth undefeated Juvenile winner trained by Bob Baffert (Vindication, Game Winner, and Corniche). New York late-runner FORTE is the real deal. He rallied wide to a hard-fought victory in his first route, a highly rated Grade 1 at Keeneland. Each start better than the start before, Forte will be finishing. CURLY JACK slips in under the radar with a chance to outrun his odds. He has not run fast yet, or against top company, but he won a graded route last time and has progressed as distances have increased. He could hit the board at a big number. NATIONAL TREASURE finished a creditable second last out behind stablemate Cave Rock in a fast route that was only his second start. National Treasure has upside, adds blinkers, and will be forwardly placed. Juvenile Turf European Group 3 winner SILVER KNOTT is a proper choice in the Juvenile Turf, a race won 10 of 15 years by horses who raced or prepped overseas. Trainer Charlie Appleby is 3 for 4 in this race. The only subpar race by Silver Knott was on soft ground. He has won around a turn (right-handed), and the horse he defeated last out subsequently finished second in a Group 1. PACKS A WAHLOP merits a look, though California runners are 0 for 26 in the Juvenile Turf and never hit the board in this race outside of California. However, Packs a Wahlop was impressive in three wins, including two stakes; he has speed and can finish. ANDTHEWINNERIS scored a decisive Grade 2 victory over the Keeneland course, running his final five-sixteenths in 29.39 even while losing ground. He is an off-the-pace threat. VICTORIA ROAD won his last three in Europe for trainer Aidan O’Brien, whose 20 Juvenile Turf starters produced four wins and five seconds. The Group 3 that Victoria Road won last out is the race Line of Duty prepped in before winning the 2018 Juvenile Turf. :: BREEDERS’ CUP 2022: See DRF’s special section with top contenders, odds, comments, news, and more for each division Mike Beer Juvenile Turf Sprint MISCHIEF MAGIC appeared to be prepping when beginning versus a strong field back in May. He then won his next three starts while showing admirable versatility – winning from the front, the back, and from a stalking position. He will face the shortest distance of his career in this spot, but he classes up well and will have some pace in front of him. PERSIAN FORCE looked good winning three of his first four starts, including a Group 2 on the lead over the summer. He has since acquitted himself well in three straight at the Group 1 level, including a determined effort two back verus Coolmore’s top juvenile, the now-retired Blackbeard. He has speed, but doesn’t need the lead to be effective. LOVE REIGNS won her maiden impressively over course and distance early on, before shipping to Royal Ascot to finish a game fourth in the Queen Mary. She got back on track last time while showing handy speed en route to a dominant stakes win at Saratoga with an 89 Beyer. She is dangerous for trainer Wesley Ward, who has won the last three runnings of this race.  Juvenile Fillies ATOMICALLY has improved steadily through three starts while getting better with distance, and she will take the step up in class following a comprehensive stakes win in her two-turn debut. She stayed wide throughout the running of that last one, before finishing it off with a strong run through the lane. This private purchase only has to improve slightly as she makes her first start for trainer Todd Pletcher, and she will be a fair price. CHOCOLATE GELATO also starts for Pletcher, and she is fastest entering the race with a 92 Beyer earned in an impressive maiden win sprinting. Her figure regressed when stretched out for the Grade 1 Frizette last time, though that race was run over a very wet track and she appeared to win with something in hand. AND TELL ME NOLIES rallied gamely to close down a clear leader in the Grade 1 Debutante sprinting two starts back. She handled the stretch out in distance last time while overcoming a stumble at the start, though she had a competitive pace in front of her that day. Juvenile Fillies Turf SPIRIT GAL (Best Bet) took a tough beat three starts back when getting a bit headstrong on the early lead and was nipped at the wire sprinting. She dominated on the lead in her next two starts while appearing to get stronger as the race went on. Speedy filly has tons of stamina on the bottom of her pedigree and her running style should translate well to racing over here. BE YOUR BEST looked quite a bit like the top 2-year-old turf filly over here while winning her first two career starts impressively, including the P.G. Johnson from a stalking position. She disappointed a bit in her prep for this, but that race was run over yielding ground and she was rated wide away from a moderate pace. She can easily bounce back. MIDNIGHT MILE has been overlooked in the wagering in both starts so far, but she has come through with strong efforts each time. She overcame late traffic with a determined finish to win a Group 3 last time in an effort that is much stronger than it may appear. :: Get access to Breeders' Cup Clocker Reports with our special VIP Package and save off the retail price. Juvenile CAVE ROCK has been impressive while winning three in a row to begin his career for trainer Bob Baffert with big figures, including a pair of Grade 1s. Quick colt stretched out effectively last time while dominating a couple of stablemates with a big 104 Beyer, and he is going to be tough to down as one of the shorter prices on either Breeders’ Cup program. LOST ARK won at first asking going short while using his speed. He stretched out around two turns for his second start and looked good doing it a different way to become a stakes winner. He never made an impact when stepped up to try a Grade 1 last time, though he did not have a great trip in that race and might rate the benefit of the doubt at a price. FORTE isn’t as fast as Cave Rock, but he is a dual Grade 1 winner and he handled the stretch out in distance last time while sitting a trip and then gamely getting the best of a duel with a talented rival. He is tactical for top connections and might pose the biggest threat to the favorite.  Juvenile Turf SILVER KNOTT ships over for connections that have had a big run of success in Grade 1 turf races in North America over the past couple of years. Liked the way he settled before closing down what appeared to be a modest pace in his prep for this. Has a big pedigree, is already a two-time group winner, and is only going to get better with time and distance. I’M VERY BUSY was impressive winning his Saratoga debut with a powerful finish from off the pace. Not sure he had a real excuse last time when denied late at a short price, though that race was run over yielding ground and he was pretty conservatively ridden early. VICTORIA ROAD brings experience with seven starts already behind him for top connections. He has improved with distance while winning three in a row on the way into this, and he has shown an adaptable running style in those races. He might get a good trip from the rail. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
