CYPRESS, Calif. – Bp Cartel Policy won his third derby of 2024, and earned a berth to the $600,000 Champion of Champions on Dec. 14, with a convincing win in Sunday’s $763,000 Los Alamitos Super Derby at 400 yards. Ridden by Armando Cervantes, Bp Cartel Policy caught stablemate Ab Seis Corazones in the final strides to win by a neck. Bp Cartel Policy paid $4 as the favorite and was timed in 19.61 seconds. Monty Arrossa trains the first two finishers as well as Lets Leave, who finished third. Join DRF Bets. Arrossa had four of the nine starters in the Super Derby. The previously unbeaten Stanley Cartel finished last after a troubled start. Ab Seis Corazones broke sharply and held a narrow advantage over Bp Cartel Policy for the first half of the race. The style of the win was a change from earlier this year when Bp Cartel Policy led throughout the $174,200 Los Alamitos Winter Derby in February and the $193,400 Golden State Derby in September. All three of the derby wins have been at 400 yards. Owned and bred by Bill Price, Bp Cartel Policy has won 7 of 14 starts and earned $594,554. He has earned $503,102 this year, by winning six of seven starts. The lone loss was a fifth-place finish after a troubled start in a division of the Golden State Derby trials in August. Bp Cartel Policy was quick enough in that race to gain a berth in the final. In trials for the Los Alamitos Super Derby on Oct. 20, Bp Cartel Policy was clocked in 19.51 seconds, setting the fastest qualifying time.
