Erin Hlubik describes herself as a “small-time breeder,” but for unbeaten Bourbon Bon Bay, she’s also owner, exercise rider, racing manager, assistant trainer to husband Ramon Martin, and number one fan. On Wednesday, Bourbon Bon Bay will be Hlubik’s first stakes starter when the 5-year-old faces 11 others in Parx’s Cornucopia for fillies and mares at 6 1/2 furlongs. The Cornucopia is one of three $75,000 handicaps on the program with the Turkey Trot for 3-year-olds and upward at a mile 70 yards and the Let’s Give Thanks for 3-year-olds and upward at 6 1/2 furlongs. Hlubik acquired Bourbon Bon Bay’s dam, Sheza Dish, and planned the mating with Maryland-based stallion Bourbon Courage. The result was Bourbon Bon Bay. “I bred her with the idea of selling, but I get too attached,” Hlubik said. Bourbon Bon Bay has done nothing but collect victories for Hlubik. However, it hasn’t come easy. “She had some conformation faults and wore corrective shoes, so I took my time,” Hlubik said. “She got sick at the beginning of her 4-year-old year, and we let her heal.” :: DRF Bets members get FREE DRF Past Performances - Formulator or Classic.
