Bold Fortune continued a promising start to his career with a dominant 7 3/4-length victory in Monday’s $165,386 New York Breeders’ Futurity, the richest race on the richest card of the season at Finger Lakes. Bold Fortune ($4.90), a homebred for Richard Nicolai’s Fortune Farm who is trained by George Weaver, has now won twice from three career starts. The son of prominent New York sire Central Banker raced evenly in his debut at Saratoga, not showing much kick while finishing third behind Sacrosanct, the next-out winner of the Bertram F. Bongard for statebreds. In his second start at Aqueduct, Bold Fortune was much more forward. He broke sharply and won by 10 1/2 lengths despite being eased up in the final sixteenth. In the Futurity, Bold Fortune was again away well under Dylan Davis. He established a clear lead down the backstretch, and widened his lead to three lengths through an opening half-mile in 44.99 seconds. He was never seriously challenged, and continued to extend his advantage while only hand-ridden late.  Bold Fortune finished the six furlongs in 1:10.72. :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match + FREE All Access PPs! The 4-5 favorite, Under Who’s Radar was exiting two turf stakes. He broke slowly, made a bid to chase down the leader in upper stretch, but weakened late.  Earlier on the card, Maker’s Candy and Sweet Brown Sugar, both favored, captured a pair of $50,000 stakes for New York-breds in dominant fashion.  Maker’s Candy ($2.70) led throughout to win the Genesee Valley Breeders’ Stakes for older horses by 4 3/4 lengths. He finished the 1 1/16 miles in 1:47.08 under Manny Franco.  Maker’s Candy, who is trained by Mike Maker for Paradise Farms, David Staudacher, Maxis Stable, and John Huber, scored his first stakes win of the year after a pair of stakes-placings against statebred company at Saratoga.  Sweet Brown Sugar ($2.40) scored her fourth career stakes win, but first around two turns in the Jack Betta Be Rite Stakes for fillies and mares. She sat a perfect stalking trip and then powered away for a seven-length score, stopping the clock in 1:47.74. Sweet Brown Sugar, who is trained by Paul Barrow for Richie Rich Racing Stable, won the Shesastonecoldfox Stakes at Finger Lakes as a juvenile, and the East View Stakes at Aqueduct and the Niagara Stakes at Finger Lakes this year. She was second in the New York Oaks.  :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
