HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – There’s been one constant with Bohemian Bo this meet at Oaklawn Park and that will be in play again Sunday when he seeks his second consecutive win the $150,000 Nodouble Stakes. Bohemian Bo will break from the rail in the six-furlong stakes for 3-year-olds and up bred in Arkansas. It’s the same post he’s drawn for his two other starts this meet. “I couldn’t believe it,” quipped trainer Tommy Vance. :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match + FREE All Access PPs! But while many consider such a draw a negative, that’s not been the case for Bohemian Bo. “He loves the fence,” Vance said. “He’s been down on the rail a bunch over his career and he likes the rail. It doesn’t bother him.” Bohemian Bo, who is part of a field of seven that includes fellow stakes winners Lochmoor, King Peanut, and Willow Creek Road, has broken on top in his last five starts. “He’s a really good gate horse,” Vance said. “Let’s just keep our fingers crossed that he does his break properly and he’ll be fine.” Cristian Torres has the mount for breeders Michael and Linda Mazoch. Bohemian Bo opened his meet with a December allowance win that came in his first race since April. In his other start at the meet, Bohemian Bo was second in another allowance, on Jan. 31. “His last race was a nice race,” Vance said. “He won the two-other-than early in the meet against open company and ran his eyeballs out that day and he ran hard the other day. He just got outrun the last part of it. That’s all.” Vance noted both races were against open company and that for each, Bohemian Bo earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 87. It’s the best last-race number in the Nodouble. “He’s coming up to the race good,” Vance said. “He’s had two nice breezes. We kind of got lucky and breezed him around the [inclement weather], so he’s on schedule. He should be on schedule to run a good race, hopefully.” Bohemian Bo won this race last year and looks like a candidate to control the pace Sunday. “He doesn’t get headed very often,” Vance said. “It takes a fast horse to get in front of him the first half-mile.” Midnight Taxes has shown speed in the past and could get a tracking trip when he starts from post 7. Navy Seal also has some natural speed. He is a half-brother to Lochmoor, who as a closer, can take advantage if the fractions were to get too hot up front Sunday. The Nodouble goes as the seventh race. The ninth race is a first-level allowance for 3-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles and it carries an optional-claiming price of $200,000. McDude was second by a head at this distance and level last out at Oaklawn. “We think this is a young horse that’s just developing,” said trainer John Ortiz. “He showed a lot of talent in his first start at Churchill Downs over the slop. We think that this horse is only going to get better with more distance and with more racing.” McDude won his debut by a head in a maiden special weight sprint. For his last start Feb. 7, the son of McKinzie earned a career-high Beyer of 83. “What I saw that day, and also what we saw from him on debut, is that this horse, he’s got grit,” Ortiz said. “He’s a ‘don’t-push-me-around’ type of horse, because he’ll fight back.” Fernando Jara has the mount from post 3. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
