ELMONT, N.Y. – Bobby Flay is going back for seconds. Five days before the 2016 Belmont Stakes, the celebrity chef purchased a minority interest in the 3-year-old Creator, who rewarded that investment with a nose victory in the Belmont. Monday, Flay bought a minority interest in the colt We the People, who will make his next start – potentially as the favorite – in Saturday’s 154th Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park. “I’m thrilled to join the We the People team,” Flay said in a press release. “I have been an admirer of this colt since he started his career at the beginning of this year. I want to thank Lisa and Kenny Troutt of WinStar for giving me this exciting opportunity. Winning the 2016 Belmont with Creator will be a moment that me and my family will never forget.” :: Get ready for the Belmont Stakes with DRF Past performances, picks, clocker reports, and betting strategies! As was the case in 2016, Flay bought into a horse owned, at least in part, by WinStar Farm. We the People, a son of Constitution, is owned by WinStar, CMMWLTH and Siena Farm. “We appreciate Bobby wanting to partner with us again,” Elliott Walden, president, CEO, and racing manager of WinStar, said in a release. “He is great for the business, and a great partner.” We the People, trained by Rodolphe Brisset, has won 3 of 4 starts and is coming off a 10 1/4-length victory in the Grade 3 Peter Pan Stakes here on May 14. His 103 Beyer Speed Figure earned for the Peter Pan is the highest recorded by a 3-year-old in 2022. We the People won a maiden race at Oaklawn Park in February and an allowance at Oaklawn in March. He finished seventh in the Arkansas Derby on April 2 after finding himself behind horses for the first time. We the People bounced back with a front-running victory in the Peter Pan and, on paper, appears to be the primary speed in what is shaping up to be an eight-horse Belmont field.
