Saturday's early pick-four sequence at Belmont begins in race 2 and does not feature any stars. There is an allowance/optional claimer for New York-bred filly-and-mare sprinters, a two-life claimer for older female turf sprinters, and a pair of starter-allowance races for older horses, one on dirt and the other on turf. Race 2 - OC $40k/N2X This is a fairly well-matched field of fillies and mares, but my idea is to try to get #5 ARCHUMYBABY home at what should be a square price (she is 7/2 on the morning line). Archumybaby ran one of her better races to win the Videogenic at the end of March with a Beyer of 80, then had an uncomfortable trip while running better than it appears and finishing a close sixth in her next start. She was claimed out of a win for $25k in early May by Linda Rice and made her first start for the new connections in this condition, finishing a no-threat fifth. There is more to that effort first off the claim than meets the eye, however. Run over a track that was favoring the inside paths, Archumybaby was rated back to last from the start while being handled by a seven-pound apprentice rider before spending much of that race over behind horses and not getting in position to be effective. She is much better than that last race would indicate and gets a major rider change for this. #2 FOREVER CHANGED is making her 3-year-old debut off the layoff but showed potential as a juvenile and is a threat here if ready to take a step forward right away, and the Drawing Away entry of #1 TIMELY TRADITION and especially #1a FAIR REGIS are also contenders. A:  5 B:  1 entry, 2 Race 3 - Claiming $30,000 N2L Three scratches from the main body of this race leave a field of seven, and the horse to beat is clearly #7 LILA RUTH. A winner of her career debut and lone start for a claiming tag so far, she returned from a layoff last month to run the kind of race that is going to make her very tough in this spot. Looking a bit fresh early in that race while pulling her way to the lead, Lila Ruth stayed gamely to hold challengers all the way down inside the final half-furlong before finally giving in. She is back quickly for this after facing a better field here eight days ago (though she did not run well there), and she is dropping in class. #6 GATTINO MARRONE still has something to prove as she makes just her second start on turf, but she took a big step forward in that race and is going to be tough for Lila Ruth to handle if she can back that race up. To me, one of these two is likely to win, and I will cover both. A:  6, 7 Race 4 - Alw 50000s This field of six older sprinters is well matched and lacks a standout on paper. I am interested in #5 BUSTIN HOFFMAN at a price but will play this race to survive in the pick four using #1 FOX RED and  #6 JAVELIN as well. A:  1, 5, 6 Race 5 - Alw 40000s This is another well-matched field of eight on turf and requires more coverage than the first three legs. The main two for me are #1 GO POKE THE BEAR and #8 WAR TREATY, though #5 HERECOMESYOURMAN is logical and the horse to beat. Go Poke the Bear took advantage of a very fast pace set by his entrymate two back, then was defeated as the favorite last time, but he actually ran better than it looks in that last one, which was run at a very slow pace. War Treaty faced much better at Monmouth in his last start and was forced to race heavily favored Variant Perception from early on before tiring in the stretch. A:  1, 5, 8
