For a filly who has been first or second in eight of nine starts, the Quarter Horse Beach Walk has had a frustrating career. She started in trials for three major futurities at Los Alamitos last year and failed to qualify for any of them. The trend was reversed when Beach Walk won a division of the Los Alamitos Oaks time trials on March 1, setting the quickest qualifying time for Saturday’s $430,000 final at 400 yards. Trained by Juan Aleman for Gentry Farms, Beach Walk won the third of four trials in 19.92 seconds, her third career win. She is likely to go favored in a field of 10 on Saturday. The Gentry-Aleman team also start Bold N Beautiful, who was second by a nose to Apolitical Chilitas in the first time trial. Bold N Beautiful will appear in her first stakes final in the Los Alamitos Oaks, the track’s leading race for 3-year-old fillies. Apolitical Chilitas, trained by Jose Flores, has won 3 of 10 starts and will start in her third stakes final in the Oaks. She had troubled trips when seventh in the $1.07 million Golden State Million Futurity last October and last of 10 in the $1.83 million Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity in December. :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing! In the Los Alamitos Oaks, Apolitical Chilitas broke toward the rail from an inside post in a field of eight but recovered to score a narrow win in 19.96 seconds. Apolitical Chilitas starts from post 5 in the Los Alamitos Oaks. The other trial race winners are Shaken Going On in 20.02 seconds and Hott Temptation in 20.13. Shaken Goin On was fifth as the 2-1 favorite in the $536,151 Black Gold Fillies’ Futurity at Will Rogers Downs last November. The Los Alamitos Oaks trial was her 2025 debut. The lone stakes winner in the field is Up to Party, the winner of the $1.01 million Ed Burke Million Futurity last June when trained by Monty Arrossa. Earlier this month, Arrossa was banned from starting horses at Los Alamitos after three of his runners tested positive for prohibited medications last fall, including American Dreamin in the Golden State Million Futurity. The purse of that race may be redistributed, pending a decision by Los Alamitos stewards who conducted a hearing on the matter earlier this week. Arrossa’s horses have been transferred to his former assistant, Ramiro Castillo. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
