Askbut I Won’ttell emerged from a tight pack and drew clear in the final stages to win the 37th running of the Grade 3, $113,900 Cardinal Handicap on Sunday, when the 2010 Breeders’ Cup weekend at Churchill Downs came to a quiet end. Ridden by Shaun Bridgmohan, Askbut I Won’ttell burst through a seam after straightening for home and went on to a 1 1/4-length triumph in the 1 1/8-mile turf race. She returned $14.80 to win as fifth choice in a field of five fillies and mares after finishing in 1:50.41 over a firm course. Kiss Mine, the 9-5 favorite, finished second, another neck ahead of My Baby Baby. Chicago-based Chris Block trains Askbut I Won’ttell for his family’s ownership group, Team Block. A 4-year-old daughter of Horse Chestnut, Askbut I Won’ttell now has won 5 of 15 starts and $264,902. Team Block also won the Grade 3 Louisville Handicap at the Churchill spring meet with Free Fighter.
