BEST BET: Rose of Dublin (3rd race) First Race 1. Sounds Delicious 2. Crimson Frost 3. Friend of Liberty If taking SOUNDS DELICIOUS have to hope that she needed that first start back from the layoff when failing to make any kind of run to contention and giving way in the stretch; likely too good for this field if that is the case, as she put together a strong run of form over this track earlier in the year. CRIMSON FROST keeps Junior Alvarado for Linda Rice following solid win from off the pace going a mile off the layoff last time; closer hasn't sprinted since her career debut two years ago. FRIEND OF LIBERTY was also off the bench when racing wide and finishing a no threat 4th ahead of SOUNDS DELICIOUS last time; best race came in the slop last November, but she otherwise hasn't really run one that would handle the best efforts from the top two. Second Race 1. Tenency 2. Bourbon Did It 3. Legion Storm TENENCY ran deceptively well first time out when making a game four-wide around the turn before settling for second-best and excuses can be made for his subsequent starts (chased a fast pace 5/28, jammed up in behind a more modest pace 8/2, and not getting over to the good rail 9/27 after being listed as a vet scratch prior to that race); drops. BOURBON DID IT was also chasing that fast pace on 5/28 before tiring, and he had been going longer in his three prior starts while failing to find a finish; starts back sprinting on the drop for a dangerous trainer. LEGION STORM has done little to suggest that he has much talent in his first five starts but he is also getting the right class drop for this, and he is turning back in distance. Third Race 1. Rose of Dublin 2. Annette's Humor 3. Call It a Truce ROSE OF DUBLIN dropped to this level for the first time while turning back in distance on 10/24 and just missed after a game late surge on the wire; back in for $30k after catching the kind of sloppy track she doesn't appear to handle in her first start off the claim. ANNETTE'S HUMOR has dangerous speed dropping to this level for the first time for Rudy; had no excuse last time after getting clear as the favorite, only to be run down by a first time starter. CALL IT A TRUCE has not run particularly well in her last two starts, both over tracks with some moisture in them; threat here if she can run a race more like her debut. Fourth Race 1. Small Bear 2. Caledonian 3. Backsideofthemoon SMALL BEAR tried to keep closer to a solid pace than usual in the Queens County last time, and was caught wide early, before tiring without making an impact; had run deceptively well in his three dirt starts this year prior to that one, including that Laurel stake when down on a dead rail for most of the running, and benefits from this class relief. CALEDONIAN has questions to answer going this distance but ut appears to be something his connections want to try having also entered and scratched him from Saturday's Alex M. Robb over this distance; good post to try the stretch out and he is not without some talent. BACKSIDEOFTHEMOON won the Jazil over this track and trip in his first start of the year and has been facing better horses in tougher spots since; blinkers go back on and he is going to be very tough here with his good race. Fifth Race 1. Passporttovictory 2. Scorpion Bowl 3. Carrera Cat PASSPORTTOVICTORY won the first four dirt races she started in after being claimed by this trainer early last year, then returned to this circuit and fell just short in this condition with a new top figure; tough in this weaker spot is showing up with another 79. SCORPION BOWL also wound up at Finger Lakes late last year, where she picked up her second career victory while switching from turf to dirt, and the finished 2nd in each of her next two starts behind wire to wire winners; back to this circuit while heading in the right direction. CARRERA CAT has spent most of her career concentrating on turf, but she has run her best races on the main track, including that easy front-running score when last seen in November, though she was drifting out pretty badly late in that spot. :: Want to get the latest news with your past performances? Stone Breaker D EMCEE took a little money first time out before finishing last, but he looked green racing over that sloppy track and was done no favors by getting put in tight quarters and steadying out of position entering the far turn of that race; drops for his second start with that experience behind him. LETTERCARRIERHENRY has made two starts at Finger Lakes so far and he flashed good speed in both of those races, before getting run down late; that kind of speed tends to be dangerous at this level and he may also benefit from getting ti race over a fast track for the first time. STONE BREAKER debuted for a lesser claiming price and ran a big race while showing speed on a solid pace, and only giving in grudgingly to Trance, who came right back to win again with a 69 Beyer; facing a horse in LETTERCARRIERHENRY here who may be faster than him early. Seventh Race 1. Picco Uno 2. Timely Tradition 3. Fair Regis PICCO UNO isn't the easiest horse to trust but she rates to be too much for this field on the big class drop, assuming she shows up ready to run; has made each of her last nine starts in stakes company, with some success, after winning four straight allowance races prior to stepping up. TIMELY TRADITION scratching from a longer route race to await this spot, where she will be moving turf to dirt after winning three of her first four dirt starts off the claim, with the lone loss coming in a photo in a stakes race; consistent mare has won 6 of 11 overall on dirt and owns a versatile running style. FAIR REGIS is also admirably consistent and enters here in good form after just missing with a late run at this level last time; closer needs some pace. Eighth Race 1. Our Braintrust 2. Mind Control 3. Souper Jackpot OUR BRAINTRUST is not without something to prove as he steps up in the Jerome over a mile, but he was an early-season stakes winner on dirt as a 2yo, and his return from a layoff most recently was a solid effort while giving game chase to a streaking Alwaysmining, who has now won three straight on dirt following his dominant stakes win at Laurel last weekend with an 88 Beyer; handy colt can land the right trip in this spot, which is not lacking for pace. MIND CONTROL enters his 3yo debut as a Grade 1-winning 2yo, though he did have a very soft trip on the lead when taking that Hopeful wire to wire at Saratoga; won't be too hard on him for his non-effort in the Breeders' Cup as he did miss time heading into that race, and he deserves the chance to regroup this year. SOUPER JACKPOT battled back after being headed in the stretch to break his maiden in his second career start, and he was game after making an early move to the lead last time and putting away his first rival, before falling to favored Garter and Tie late; well drawn outside and having that solid race over the distance is a benefit to him. Ninth Race 1. Crafty Concorde 2. Alright Alright 3. Gypsum Johnny CRAFTY CONCORDE has back races to be tough in this race and he ran one of his good ones two starts back to defeat claimers at Finger Lakes; was on short rest when cut back to a shorter sprint and wired by an in-form speed most recently. ALRIGHT ALRIGHT has gotten back on track in his last two starts while defeating similar fields while using his speed; rivals finishing directly behind him in those two efforts both came right back to win. GYPSUM JOHNNY will be way too much for these horses if he can still run but that remains an open question for new 7yo who has not been competitive on the track since defeating a much better field with a 94 Beyer in July of 2017; big drop for this.
