Amplify Horse Racing has announced a partnership with leading online therapy platform BetterHelp to offer members of the Thoroughbred industry one month of free therapy and discounted resources following that time period. Amplify is a nonprofit that offers educational and career opportunites, along with a mentorship program, to those wishing to participate in the Thoroughbred industry. Amplify will hold a virtual event Wednesday that will include a discussion about mental health for future and current Thoroughbred industry employees. Amplify's partnership with BetterHealth and Wednesday’s virtual event come during Mental Health Awareness Month, and at a time when the mental health of jockeys, in particular, has been in focus following the suicides of two riders earlier this year – Avery Whisman, 23, and Alex Canchari, 29. In the wake of their deaths, The Jockeys’ Guild and the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority are conducting an anonymous mental wellness survey with jockeys and exercise riders to seek input on their support needs. The survey, which is confidential and available bilingually, was distributed via email and text. The results are being submitted to a third party, FGS Global, an independent research company, and will be reviewed by industry stakeholders.  “As Amplify encourages more young people to consider careers in the Thoroughbred industry, we want to make sure we are providing flexible resources like BetterHelp to support their mental health and well-being,” Annise Montplaisir, executive director of Amplify, said in a release. “Many industry employees have unconventional working hours and travel extensively, making it difficult to schedule a regular therapy appointment, so we’re excited to offer something that can be flexible regardless of schedule.” :: Get Daily Racing Form Past Performances – the exclusive home of Beyer Speed Figures BetterHelp, which allows users to quickly reach a therapist via phone, video, or live chat, has over 25,000 therapists across the U.S., services in more than 50 languages, and support in over 200 countries.
