Tom Amoss, the Midwest-based trainer, will serve a 15-day suspension after one of his horses tested positive for a drug that is used to treat heart arrhythmias in humans after a win in a race at Horseshoe Indianapolis last fall, according to a ruling posted by the Indiana Horse Racing Commission. Amoss began serving the suspension on April 15. It will run through April 29, according to the ruling. Malibu SS, the Amoss-trained horse, tested positive for solatol after winning the first race at Horseshoe on Oct. 17, according to the ruling. A split-sample test confirmed the positive. Solatol is a Class 3 substance under Indiana regulations. This is the second Class 3 positive for Amoss within the last year. Amoss served a seven-day suspension last year for a positive for lidocaine in a horse that also raced at Horseshoe. :: Take your handicapping to the next level and play with FREE DRF Past Performances - Formulator or Classic.  The stewards’ ruling said that Amoss was given a 60-day suspension for the solatol positive, but that 45 days of the suspension would be “deferred” unless any horse trained by Amoss tests positive for a Class 1, 2, or 3 drug “on or before Nov. 17, 2023.” Amoss was also fined $5,000. Malibu SS was disqualified from the race, which had a $36,000 purse. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
