American Runaway, who is the nation’s top-ranked 2-year-old Quarter Horse, was the second fastest qualifier behind Dm Streakn Thru Fire during Saturday night’s trials for the $1 million Texas Classic Futurity at Lone Star Park. The Grade 1 finale will be run Nov. 13. Dm Streakn Thru Fire won his 400-yard trial in 19.43 seconds on a muddy track. It was the fastest time from 122 starters in 13 trial races. G. R. Carter was aboard for trainer Michael Joiner. American Runaway, in his first start since finishing seventh in his trial for the All American Futurity in August, overtook fellow Grade 1 winner Llano Teller late to win his trial in 19.49. Cody Jensen rode American Runaway, who earlier this year won the Grade 1 Ruidoso Futurity, for trainer Paul Jones. Llano Teller set the third-fastest time, of 19.54. Nose decision at Evangeline McM Dashmaster ($7) came out on top of a three-way photo in the $301,919 LQHBA Sales Futurity at Evangeline Downs on Saturday. He won the restricted Grade 1 for Quarter Horses by a nose. It was the fourth consecutive win for McM Dashmaster. J.R. Ramirez was aboard for trainer Katie Carlos. McM Dashmaster earned $124,300 for the win Saturday.
